"Please, don't give us lessons in human rights and democracy," the minister said, as he spoke to a crowd of some 200 Turkish government supporters gathered at the residence of their country's consul in the northern city of Hamburg. The comments came after German local authorities banned rallies that Turkish officials were due to address to raise support among expatriate voters for a referendum in April on boosting President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's powers. "Germany must not intervene in our elections and our referendum," he said. "Those who want to say 'Yes' in the referendum are being blocked and that is not right." Local authorities had called off a rally in Hamburg where Cavusoglu was due to speak, citing fire safety concerns. Police said about 250 opponents of Erdogan gathered near the consulate, some of them brandishing signs that read "Dictator Erdogan -- Hayir," meaning "No" in Turkish. WASHINGTON – Former Rep. Amo Houghton said he will never stop being a Republican – but now, at age 91, he's joined "the resistance" against President Trump. "Enough already. The Buffalo News contacted three former Republican lawmakers last week: Houghton, former Rep. Jack Quinn of Hamburg and former Rep. Thomas M. Reynolds of Clarence. And while their level of criticism varied, all three offered far more harsh reviews of Trump's performance than did the two Republicans who represent the region in the House today, Rep. Chris Collins of Clarence and … [Read more...] about 91 and out of Congress, former Rep. Amo Houghton is ‘scared for the country’
After a Dutch comedy show’s video went viral recently, introducing Donald Trump to the “best language in Europe” and a “fantastic” pony park, the Germans have taken their own stab at explaining their country to the American leader. In a video uploaded to YouTube on Thursday, comedian Jan Böhmermann jokes that he was incensed that the Dutch had asked to be “second” in Trump’s “America first” mentality. “Stop Holland! We want to be number two,” Böhmermann exclaimed. “Because we are strong, we are big, and who else if not us deserves to be given a third chance.” Böhmermann then went on to explain that they had to make their message “as simple as possible” for Trump because “he does not read”. So the show used a Trump impersonator to narrate the video in the president’s “own language”. The comedic “introduction” by the Federal … [Read more...] about WATCH: This is how Germany ‘introduced’ Trump to the country
