Rep. Diane Black, R-Tenn., who is running for governor of Tennessee, on Tuesday said porn played a "big part" in the rise of mass shootings in schools, the HuffPost reports. "It's available on the shelf when you walk in the grocery store," she said last week during a meeting with local pastors at Safe Harbor of Clarksville, Tennessee. "Yeah, you have to reach up to get it, but there's pornography there. All of this is available without parental guidance. I think that is a big part of the root cause." There have been 23 school shootings in the United States in 2018 where someone was injured or killed, per CNN, including one May 25 when a gunman opened fire at Noblesville West Middle School in Noblesville, Indiana. Ten people were killed in a shooting at Santa Fe High School in Texas on May 18, and 17 in Parkland, Florida, at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in one of the deadliest school shootings in modern U.S. history. Black blamed the increase in shootings on "deterioration … [Read more...] about Rep. Diane Black: Pornography ‘Root Cause’ of School Shootings

Felicia Sonmez, The Washington Post Published 2:05 pm PDT, Friday, July 27, 2018 A federal grand jury has indicted a man for leaving voice mails in which he vowed to assault and murder Rep. Diane Black, R-Tenn., in a case that marks the third instance of a lawmaker going public about death threats within the past month. The man, Clifton Ward, left voice mails threatening Black in May and June, according to the indictment, which was filed on June 26. Black, who is in the final leg of a heated gubernatorial primary in Tennessee, declined to describe the content of the voice mails in an appearance on Fox News this week, saying only that they "were threatening enough that they concerned the police." "I can't talk about the details except to say that they were threats, and they were serious enough threats that the grand jury did take action," Black told Fox News on Wednesday. "This is not the first time, and it probably won't be the last time that when people get angry, they … [Read more...] about Man arrested for making death threat against Rep. Diane Black

Before she’s even actually been sworn into Congress, state Rep. Ilhan Omar is drawing attacks from national right-wing figures. Omar, a Democrat elected earlier this month from the Fifth Congressional District of Minneapolis and surrounding cities, will become one of the first Muslim women in Congress when she takes office in early January. Alt-right provocateur Laura Loomer, who had disrupted an Omar campaign event in Minneapolis in August, was banned last week from the social-media site Twitter for a tweet criticizing Omar, according to a report in NBC News. Loomer said she was banned for violating the site’s terms of service against hateful conduct. In August, Loomer was part of a group that accosted Omar and Michigan congressional candidate Rashida Tlaib at the event at the Holy Land Deli. Omar was mocked by conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh on his nationally syndicated show after she made headlines for her work on a new U.S. House rule that would allow members … [Read more...] about Ilhan Omar critic Laura Loomer banned from Twitter
