After ballroom dancer Nic Westlake was killed by a light rail train, his family launched a website, nicwestlakememorial.com to gain support for safety improvements and changes to the laws that govern light rail. Metropolitan Transit found the train’s driver, Abdellatif El Maarouf, at fault for the crash on W. University Avenue at Eustis Street that killed Westlake, 29, and severely injured Neli Petkova, now 27, his fiancée and dance partner. An investigation found El Maarouf had disregarded a rail stop signal at the intersection. The Ramsey County Attorney’s Office declined to pursue a charge of criminal vehicular operation because it could not prove that El Maarouf’s conduct met the standard of gross negligence, and other traffic laws didn’t apply. A GROUP of fillies have stripped off for a charity calendar in memory of a nine-year-old killed in a crash — and her mum is one of the stars. Horseriders from across Devon posed for the InspiredbyKeira charity, which was founded by the parents of Keira Ball, who was tragically killed in a crash in July last year. And to help raise cash for other bereaved families, mum Loanna decided to get involved in the photo shoot. Speaking about the charity she said: "We promote organ donation, but any money we raise goes to families who have been in a similar situation to us in the hope of easing their pain and remembering the one they have lost. "We have already helped some families, both local and elsewhere in the UK, by purchasing memory gifts for them.
