Seven law enforcement officers in Ohio are suing the rapper Afroman for using footage of their raid on his house last year in videos and merchandise for commercial purposes, according to a complaint . Four deputies, two sergeants and a detective, all with the Adams County Sheriff’s Office in West Union, filed a lawsuit in the Court of Common Pleas in Adams County on March 13, the complaint said. It listed Afroman as a defendant using his real name, Joseph E. Foreman, along with two firms that market and distribute his material and three unnamed business entities. In the complaint, the officers objected to Mr. Foreman’s use of their images for “commercial purposes, to promote his ‘Afroman’ brand,” claiming that he was using the images to sell products and promote his tours. The filing said that the rapper’s actions had caused them to suffer “humiliation, ridicule, mental distress, embarrassment and loss of reputation,” and listed several counts of unauthorized use of their … [Read more...] about Afroman Is Sued by Police Officers After Using Their Faces in Music Videos

WASHINGTON — When Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, Republican of Georgia, arranged a tour of the D.C. jail to inspect the conditions of defendants charged in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, Democrats faced a choice: Boycott or participate. House Democrats had watched last Congress as the Republican leader Kevin McCarthy pulled his members from a Democratic-led select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack, and then found themselves without a voice in the nationally televised hearings. After debating the matter internally, the Democrats were determined not to make that same mistake. So, after a roughly two-hour tour of the jail Friday, when Ms. Greene finished her remarks to news reporters gathered outside, Representative Jasmine Crockett, Democrat of Texas, stepped up to the microphones. “Somebody’s got to be here to tell the truth,” said Ms. Crockett, a first-term member of Congress and a former public defender. “If we weren’t here, there would be no check for whatever … [Read more...] about Lawmakers Tour D.C. Rapper Afroman Sued by Police Officers for Using Their Faces in Music Videos After Raiding His Home
WINCHESTER, Ohio (AP) — Seven law enforcement officers have sued rap artist Afroman, accusing him of improperly using footage from a police raid on his Ohio home last year in his music videos. Four deputies, two sergeants and a detective with the Adams County Sheriff’s Office brought the suit earlier this month, claiming invasion of privacy. Other law enforcement officers who were involved in the raid are not named as plaintiffs. The plaintiffs say the rapper, whose real name is Joseph Foreman, took footage of their faces obtained during the August 2022 raid and used it in music videos and social media posts without their consent. They say that has caused them “emotional distress, embarrassment, ridicule, loss of reputation and humiliation.” Police in Ohio raided Afroman's home last summer. Since then, he's used footage he got of them during the raid in his music videos and put their faces on T-shirts. Now, they're suing him for "humiliation" and "loss of reputation." … [Read more...] about Rapper Afroman Sued by Police Officers for Using Their Faces in Music Videos After Raiding His Home

Now it’s the Chinese.” After New York Times columnist David Brooks stated that the U.S. and China are in a cold war and official U.S. policy is that we’re in a cold war with China, co-host Amna Nawaz asked, “Do you see it the same way? We’re in a cold war with China now?” Capehart answered, “Well, when David puts it like that, yes. How could I argue?” He continued, “Also because of what we’ve seen with what China has done on the diplomatic front in the last few weeks. The deal that China brokered between I think it was Saudi Arabia and Iran, huge deal. I remember — I’m old … [Read more...] about Capehart: We’re in a Cold War with China, They’re Making Deals in Middle East We ‘Used to Seek’
