Former wrestlers at Ohio State University have accused their former coach, Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, of failing to stop the team's doctor from molesting them and other students, NBC News reported. In April the university announced it was investigating accusations that Dr. Richard Strauss abused team members from the mid-1970s to late 1990s. Strauss killed himself in 2005. Jordan was assistant wrestling coach at Ohio State from 1986 to 1994. He is now a powerful ally of President Donald Trump in Congress who is mentioned as a possible future speaker of the House. Three former wrestlers told NBC News that it was common knowledge that Strauss showered regularly with the students and inappropriately touched them during appointments, and said it would have been impossible for Jordan to be unaware; one wrestler said he told Jordan directly about the abuse. Thousands of demonstrators gathered in cities across the U.S. to protest the Trump administration's separation of families at the … [Read more...] about GOP Rep. Fourth Ohio State Wrestler Says Rep. Jim Jordan Knew About Sexual Abuse When He Was Coach
A fourth former Ohio State University wrestler came forward Thursday to contradict Rep. Jim Jordan’s claim that he had no idea the wrestling team doctor was molesting athletes. The wrestler, Shawn Dailey, said he was groped half a dozen times by Dr. Richard Strauss in the mid-1990s, when Jordan was the assistant wrestling coach. Dailey said he was too embarrassed to report the abuse directly to Jordan at the time, but he said Jordan took part in conversations where Strauss' abuse of many other team members came up. "I participated with Jimmy [Jordan] and the other wrestlers in locker-room talk about Strauss. We all did," Dailey, 43, told NBC News. "It was very common knowledge in the locker room that if you went to Dr. Strauss for anything, you would have to pull your pants down.” Dailey spoke out two days after NBC News reported that three former wrestlers who were coached by Jordan more than two decades ago accused the GOP congressman of turning a blind eye to Strauss' … [Read more...] about Fourth Ohio State Wrestler Says Rep. Feds Open Investigation Into Former Ohio State Wrestling Doctor Accused of Abuse
The U.S. Department of Education is investigating Ohio State University's response to complaints about a doctor molesting wrestlers and other athletes decades ago, NBC News reported. For the last four months, the university has been investigating complaints from wrestlers who said that Dr. Richard Strauss, who killed himself in 2005, molested them. The investigation will touch on "allegations that employees knew or should have know about the sexual misconduct and allowed the abuse to continue," according to a university news release Thursday. The abuse allegations have reached Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, an assistant wrestling coach from 1986 to 1994 whom several former wrestlers say must have known. Jordan denies having any knowledge of the allegations. One of the lawsuits specifically mentions Mr. Jordan, Republican of Ohio, who served as the wrestling team’s assistant coach in the late 1980s and early 1990s, citing news reports that wrestlers had informed him of the abuse. Lawyers pursuing both cases say they expect to call the influential conservative as a witness. Mr. Jordan has vehemently denied allegations that he ignored sexual misconduct, and so far he has maintained the backing of his party’s heavyweights, … [Read more...] about Two Lawsuits Against Ohio State Keep Jim Jordan in the Cross Hairs
