FBI director slammed for “integrity” comments over Trump raid

August 12, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

FBI Director Christopher Wray faced backlash on Friday after issuing a statement in response to those condemning the agency's raid of former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach, Florida. In a statement on Friday, Wray said, "Unfounded attacks on the integrity of the FBI erode respect for the rule of law and are a grave disservice to the men and women who sacrifice so much to protect others. Violence and threats against law enforcement, including the FBI, are dangerous and should be deeply concerning to all Americans. "Every day I see the men and women of the FBI doing their jobs professionally and with rigor, objectivity, and a fierce commitment to our mission of protecting the American people and upholding the Constitution. I am proud to serve alongside them." The statement comes shortly after Wray condemned threats against the FBI that circulated across the internet and called them "deplorable and dangerous," after dozens of FBI agents conducted a … [Read more...] about FBI director slammed for “integrity” comments over Trump raid

Boxer Rebellion: A Pocketed Cellphone May Be Behind Your Infertility

November 30, 2014 by www.newsweek.com

As soon as they buy a new cellphone, most people tend to ravenously rip the device from its wrapping, cast the accessories and directions aside and begin getting to know the gadget that will never leave their side. But within that discarded handbook lurks some important information. For instance, in the iPhone 5 manual it reads , "carry iPhone at least 10mm (about 0.39 inches) away from your body to ensure exposure levels [to radio frequency] remain at or below the as-tested levels." Yes, you read that right. The object that billions of people around the world hold to their face to make calls or place in their pocket when not in use emits radio frequency energy, which is considered a potential health hazard. In fact, the World Health Organization (WHO) labeled radio frequency electromagnetic fields a "possible carcinogen" in 2011 after studies showed a correlation between exposure and long-term health effects, particularly a type of brain cancer. The science behind causation, … [Read more...] about Boxer Rebellion: A Pocketed Cellphone May Be Behind Your Infertility

When the great migration happened, people fleeing their homes and hearths took those beautiful fabrics across. The khes was often made by women at home. The thick, sturdy cloth had several uses — as dhurrie or something to wrap oneself up in during cold winters. It is long-lasting, as evident from the 80-year-old khes on display at the exhibition. A video show will talk about the journey of The Khes Project, other textile traditions of undivided Punjab and about women-led craft collectives active in the State. Close ties The Partition Museum’s next mammoth project is the launch of another Partition museum in the capital. Set up by TAACHT, the Dara Shikoh Library at Kashmiri Gate, Old Delhi, is being readied for the museum. ‘The Winds of Winter’ and ‘A Dream of Spring’ expected to reach 3,000 pages combined

May 21, 2019 by www.newsweek.com

In a blog post reacting to the Game of Thrones finale, author George R.R. Martin described his plans for concluding his A Song of Ice and Fire saga, right down to his anticipated word count for the final two volumes, The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring . "I'm writing," Martin wrote. " The Winds of Winter is very late, I know, I know, but it will be done. I won't say when, I've tried that before, only to burn you all and jinx myself… but I will finish it, and then will come A Dream of Spring ." "I expect these last two books of mine will fill 3,000 manuscript pages between them," Martin wrote. "If more pages and chapters and scenes are needed, I'll add them." Previous entries in the series, like ASOIAF 's third book A Storm of Swords , were around 1,500 manuscript pages, putting The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring in similar standing. Martin even dipped into the ending, comparing how A Song of Ice and Fire (often abbreviated to ASOIAF ), … [Read more...] about ‘The Winds of Winter’ and ‘A Dream of Spring’ expected to reach 3,000 pages combined
