Wonder Where World War III Might Break Out? Try Taiwan

July 22, 2021 by www.thedailybeast.com

Ever wondered where World War III might break out? A clear and troubling consensus has emerged in the American national security community that the Taiwan Strait is the most likely place for a major war to erupt between the United States and China; that it might start soon, and that such a conflict might quickly escalate into a nuclear confrontation. In March, the leading foreign policy organization in the United States, the Council on Foreign Relations in New York, issued a report concluding that Taiwan has become “the most dangerous flashpoint in the world.” There, a unique and troubling set of geopolitical developments have conspired to make a shooting war between the People’s Republic of China and the United States more likely than ever before. Recently the newly appointed commander of U.S. forces in the Indo-Pacific Region, Admiral John Aquilino, remarked that a possible invasion of Taiwan by the People’s Republic of China (PRC) “is much closer than we think.” Ever since … [Read more...] about Wonder Where World War III Might Break Out? Trump blocks Broadcom’s $117 billion bid to buy Qualcomm

March 13, 2018 by www.thehindu.com

U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday blocked a planned $117 billion takeover of chipmaker Qualcomm by Singapore-based rival Broadcom for national security reasons, scuttling what would have been the biggest technology deal ever amid concerns that it would allow China to take the lead in the booming market of producing chips. Mr. Trump, in his executive order, said there is “credible evidence” that leads him to believe that if Broadcom took control of the Qualcomm it “might take action that threatens to impair the national security of the US.” As such, Broadcom and Qualcomm “shall immediately and permanently abandon the proposed takeover”, ordered the U.S. President. “The proposed takeover of Qualcomm by the Purchaser is prohibited, and any substantially equivalent merger, acquisition, or takeover, whether effected directly or indirectly, is also prohibited,” Mr. Trump said in the executive order. The deal would have created the world’s third-largest maker of microchips, … [Read more...] about Trump blocks Broadcom’s $117 billion bid to buy Qualcomm

Russian officials deny they urged Vladimir Putin to stop war

May 27, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

Two Russian officials who purportedly signed an appeal addressed to Russian President Putin demanding an end to his war in Ukraine have denied doing so, shortly after their colleague was called a traitor and escorted from a high-level meeting. Lawmakers Natalya Kochugova, and Aleksandr Sustov were, according to Leonid Vasyukevich, a fellow member of Russia' s Communist Party, two of the four officials to have signed an appeal to Putin, urging him to stop the months-long war in Ukraine and to withdraw his troops from the country. Vasyukevich told a session of the Legislative Assembly of Russia's Primorsky Krai in the far east that the group is demanding an end to the war. "We understand that if our country does not stop this military operation, there will be more orphans," Vasyukevich said, in a rare critique of what Putin describes as a "special military operation." Reading a statement that he said he, his colleague Gennady Shulga, as well as Kochugova and Sustov had … [Read more...] about Russian officials deny they urged Vladimir Putin to stop war

The attack was reportedly carried out by members of the 59th Motorized Brigade, named after Yakov Gandziuk, a formation of the Ukrainian Ground Forces. The Ukrainian military said they sent a "fiery greeting" to the Russians to show them how "brightly Ukrainian artillery shines" in the night sky. In the official footage, defending soldiers are seen sending a barrage of rockets into the air from the safety of their foxhole. The Ukrainian Center for Strategic Communications (StratCom) said on May 26: "That's how brightly Ukrainian artillery shines for the occupiers! "The fiery greeting was conveyed to the enemy by the 59th separate motorized infantry brigade named after Yakov Gandziuk. "We never get tired of looking at the work of our defenders, we believe in the Armed Forces."
