Twelve women from abroad have filed an intervening application in the Madhya Pradesh High Court's principal bench in Jabalpur, seeking action against the Gundecha brothers of Bhopal-based Dhrupad Sansthan over allegations of sexual harassment against them. Those who have filed the intervening applications (IAs) the previous day were once students of the Dhrupad Sansthan, who are now in the United States, Sweden, Canada, Poland, Spain, Austria and Germany. The complainants, too, have alleged that they were sexually harassed by the famous Gundecha siblings the late Ramakant Gundecha, Umakant Gundecha and Akhilesh Gundecha, who plays pakhawaj, the women's counsel Dhruv Varma told PTI. The IA has been filed in support of an inquiry report of an Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), which investigated the sexual harassment allegations against the Gundechas of the Dhrupad Sansthan , a UNESCO-accredited institution after the accusations surfaced on social media in 2020, Mr. Varma … [Read more...] about Twelve women from abroad move MP HC against Gundecha brothers accused of sexual harassment

Lamar closes Glastonbury with call for women’s rights
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 14 LONDON (AP) — Rapper Kendrick Lamar has closed this year's Glastonbury Festival with a powerful headline set that saw him chant “Godspeed for women’s rights” as fake blood poured down his face from a crown of thorns. Lamar, 35, ended his new song “Savior” by chanting “they judge you, they judge Christ. Godspeed for women’s rights” before dropping his microphone and walking off the stage at the music festival Sunday. The dramatic protest came two days after the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to strip away women’s constitutional protection for abortion. The Pulitzer Prize-winning rapper was among big names including Diana Ross, Billie Eilish, Paul McCartney and Bruce Springsteen to feature at the festival in southwest England, which welcomed back 200,000 music fans for the first time since 2019 due to the … [Read more...] about Lamar closes Glastonbury with call for women’s rights
Playful dog halts soccer game after invading pitch for strokes—”Red card”
An international soccer match in Chile took an unexpected turn over the weekend after a pitch invading dog halted play. On Saturday, the Chile women's national soccer team played host to South American rivals Venezuela at the Estadio La Granja, Curicó. A friendly match serving as a warm-up for the Copa América Femenina, the game wasn't exactly action-packed with Chile mustering just one shot on target and Venezuela ultimately triumphing 1-0 thanks to a brilliant Mariana Speckmaier goal eight minutes from time. However, by then, the match's main highlight had already been and gone. That came in the 37th minute when, for reasons still unknown, a dog decided to run onto the pitch. Pitch invaders are nothing new in the world of soccer, but dog interlopers are a little less common. There are myriad reasons why someone may want to enter the field of play. Some do it for attention , others to protest a particular issue. Then are those who simply get carried away by the … [Read more...] about Playful dog halts soccer game after invading pitch for strokes—”Red card”
Regressive, inhumane: On the U.S. Supreme Court removing right to abortion
When a democracy rolls back a constitutional right that has been in place for almost half a century, it must consider itself in deep peril. The U.S. stands at that fraught juncture now, after its Supreme Court, in a 6-3 majority, overturned the 1973 ruling in Roe vs Wade , and took away the constitutional right to abortion . In one blow, on June 24, it withdrew from women anywhere in the country their right to reproductive and bodily autonomy. With Roe , as well as the 1992 decision in Planned Parenthood vs Casey that upheld Roe , gone, the court returned “the issue of abortion to the people’s elected representatives”. States can now decide whether to ban abortion , and at what stage in a pregnancy and under what circumstances. The fight over abortion has been the U.S.’s most passionately waged ideological battle. With a focus that denies any space for compassion or respect for liberty, conservatives have prioritised the task of having Roe overturned for decades. … [Read more...] about Regressive, inhumane: On the U.S. Supreme Court removing right to abortion
‘Flexible work arrangements key to future of nation’
Flexible work arrangements are the way forward, especially as they help more women and mature workers participate in the labour force, said Manpower Minister Tan See Leng at a panel discussion. Tan participated in the discussion held in conjunction with the launch of the Tripartite Collective at Parkroyal Collection Marina Bay hotel. The collective facilitates the exchange of ideas on issues faced by employers and employees. It also hopes to foster the spirit of tripartism in Singapore – that is, collaboration among the government, employers and the labour union. Regarding the future of work, Tan said: “I think the next key disruption is going to be flexible work arrangements. “The Manpower Ministry, together with the tripartite partners, has developed these standards. “We hope that everyone will support this and eventually, in about a year from now, we ... will be able to come up with some guidelines.” Flexible arrangements are also a good way to bring more people into … [Read more...] about ‘Flexible work arrangements key to future of nation’
John Oliver Rages Against Dems’ Embarrassing Roe v. Wade Response
This week saw the highly politicized Supreme Court overturn Roe v. Wade , a landmark 1973 ruling protecting a woman’s right to an abortion (in other words, granting women bodily autonomy and keeping the government out of their uteruses). The move was met with widespread condemnation, especially given how right-wing organizations have launched an ugly decades-long campaign against a woman’s right to choose (including bribing Jane Roe, aka Norma McCorvey, to speak out against the decision) , and four of the five conservative Supreme Court justices who voted to strike down Roe —Samuel Alito, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett—stating during their Senate confirmation hearings that it was settled law. The move will result in 22 states banning abortion, along with 13 states that immediately banned it due to trigger laws. “It’s absolutely horrifying,” exclaimed John Oliver on Sunday evening’s edition of Last Week Tonight , before taking aim at some of the … [Read more...] about John Oliver Rages Against Dems’ Embarrassing Roe v. Why is the monkeypox vaccine only being offered to men?
It can take a bit of time to work out which groups of people face the increased risk of contracting a virus. Unlike Coronavirus – which turned out to be especially virulent – the monkeypox virus is proving to be more selective and certainly nowhere near as infectious. When monkeypox emerged in the UK just a few weeks ago, there was barely any mention of which groups were at risk. Partly because we didn’t know – but even when it did become clearer that it was men who have sex with men who were particularly susceptible to contracting the virus, there was a fear that saying this publicly could foster stigma for a group all too familiar with bigotry. But now the UK Heath Security Agency has at last unveiled its strategy to try and mitigate the spread of the monkeypox virus – and its main intervention will be to offer a vaccine to gay and bisexual men. The agency officially acknowledges that rates of transmission are significantly higher in the male gay … [Read more...] about Why is the monkeypox vaccine only being offered to men?
Monkeypox isn’t ‘Black’ or ‘gay’ – it’s global
It’s been over 100 years since the Spanish Flu outbreak swept across the world. It is a disease that has become synonymous with the Covid-19 pandemic , a cautionary tale of the destruction a flu virus can have on a global population. But did you know it is not actually Spanish? That the disease itself likely did not originate in Spain? Instead, it is named the “Spanish” flu because the Spanish media reported on this new and deadly disease, whilst other countries, beaten down by the First World War and wanting to keep morale up, simply did not . Understandably, Spain was none too happy about being saddled with “ownership” of the killer virus, preferring to pass the buck, locally calling the H1N1 influenza strain the “French flu” and the “Soldier of Naples.” But the name stuck, all because the media at the time had hit on an “easy” shorthand for a complicated disease. It may make sense to use these simple shorthands when reporting disease outbreak, but they are not … [Read more...] about Monkeypox isn’t ‘Black’ or ‘gay’ – it’s global
Webcamming: The sex work revolution that no one is willing to talk about
The development of the internet has completely transformed the way we do business; and the “oldest profession” is no exception. In a world of online chatrooms, webcam performers can market anything from conversation to explicit sex acts. And unlike pornography or prostitution, there are virtually no laws regulating this form of sex work. Webcamming is an easy market to enter. All it takes is a computer, a decent webcam, access to a high-speed internet connection and a webcam hosting site. The hours are flexible, the working environment is safe and the salary can be very rewarding. The majority of performers are women, but there are also male and transgender performers. On sites such as Chaturbate and MyFreeCams, a tipping system operates in public chatrooms. Here, payment is voluntary, and performers are tipped for performing sexual and non-sexual acts. This makes a show profitable for the performer, at a relatively low cost to the viewer. Recommended Mother … [Read more...] about Webcamming: The sex work revolution that no one is willing to talk about
I was a stripper long before OnlyFans. Sex workers today need to be honest about the industry
A few years ago, when I saw a mom of my eight-year-old son’s friend at the grocery store, she asked, “I saw your yoga pose photo on Facebook. You’re so flexible…Were you a dancer?” Shame surged through me — I never know what to say. “Kind of,” I replied, with a shrug. I wanted to answer the question honestly, but correctly. I don’t like to be misleading. Yes, I was a dancer. Just not the kind of dancer she was thinking. She had images in mind of a ballerina in a tutu, but for anybody who knows my past, that’s not the kind of costume I wore. Recommended Why is OnlyFans banning explicit content? As OnlyFans bans ‘sexually-explicit content’, what else is on there? With a ban on explicit content, OnlyFans is setting itself up to fail I never know how someone will react to me having made money by taking my clothes off, so it’s better never to go into the specifics. I started stripping when I was 18 years old. As an actress, I … [Read more...] about I was a stripper long before OnlyFans. Sex workers today need to be honest about the industry
