The Boston Globe published an op-ed Tuesday which claimed that opposition of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives is the modern equivalent of lynching. Filmmaker Ya’Ke Smith authored the op-ed , which compared the efforts to ban DEI in conservative states to the racially motivated murder of black Americans. Smith claims that, just lynching was once the primary means of punshing a black person for standing up against the societal status quo, attacks on DEI are now seen as the preferred method of quelling black resistance. Do You Live in a ‘Tight’ State or a ‘Loose’ One? Turns Out It Matters Quite a Bit.
Political biases are omnipresent, but what we don’t fully understand yet is how they come about in the first place. In 2014, Michele J. Gelfand , a professor of psychology at the Stanford Graduate School of Business formerly at the University of Maryland, and Jesse R. A nurse had assured her early in her pregnancy that her blood work was good and that everything looked fine. As a midwife herself, Marleny knew that making the trip would be riskier than missing a few doctor’s visits. But now, in the final days of her pregnancy, she could not shake the feeling … [Read more...] about The Incredible Challenge of Counting Every Global Birth and Death
