Gary Gerard Hamilton Associated Press Published 7:43 PM EDT May 17, 2019 New York –From wine to clothing to tours, HBO and retailers have cashed in through the years with “Game of Thrones” merchandise. “Thrones” is not only a huge international show but also a massive business, with all sides hoping to pad the bank during the show’s eighth and final season. “It’s thousands of products, just a lot of stuff all around the world,” said Jeff Peters, HBO’s vice president of licensing and retail. “We’re so busy we don’t stop and count.” Products include makeup, beer, toy collectibles and even high fashion collaborations. A piece of the "Star Wars" puzzle has just fallen into place. Walt Disney Co. CEO Bob Iger says Tuesday that "Game of Thrones" showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are working on the new "Star Wars" film expected in theaters in December 2022. Iger revealed the information at the MoffettNathanson Media & Communications Summit in New York. He also said he would not be commenting further. The company had previously announced that "The Last Jedi" director Rian Johnson, separately, and Benioff and Weiss were working on new "Star Wars" films but it wasn't clear whose would come first. Johnson, the Detroit Lions' gregarious running back, has found himself immersed in the final season of the popular HBO series Game of Thrones. He live-tweeted last Sunday's episode, and at the risk of playing spoiler, he's happy to talk about it again. "I promise you I don’t care nothing about if you ain’t caught up," Johnson said Thursday as the Lions continued Phase 2 of their offseason workouts. "Look, the show has been out for so long. If you’re not caught up by now ..." With just three episodes left, Johnson said there's no room to allow for a grace period for anyone who might have missed the most recent episode.
