The prime suspect in Madeleine McCann's disappearance has described himself as the "most-known bad person in the world" in a letter from prison. Christian Brueckner, who was this week officially named in Portugal as a suspect, described his situation as "the biggest adventure you can imagine". Brueckner, who denies involvement in the toddler's abduction, admits making "silly mistakes" when he was younger, but said investigators have "not even one proof". His former lover Anastasia Meckesy claims he told her he knew what happened to Madeliene, who vanished in 2007 aged three. In a letter sent from Oldenburg prison in Germany - where he is serving a sentence for rape - Brueckner, 44, wrote: "I'm the most-known bad person in the world and I did nothing - well almost nothing." Will Nazem Kadri be a marked man against St. Louis? The Avalanche isn’t overly concerned about the bad blood from the past
Nazem Kadri is prepared for whatever shenanigans might develop in Game 1 Tuesday of the Western Conference semifinals against St. Louis. The Avalanche center might be asked to fight for the third time in four meetings against the Blues this season. Or, he could be targeted for big hits and taunted. What is known is that St. Louis will try to take Kadri off his game. Just as the Avs will try to make it uneasy for the Blues’ stars. There is no forgetting in hockey, however, and for TNT/Blues analyst Darren Pang, the bad blood between Kadri and the Blues is a juicy storyline heading into Game 1 at Ball Arena. “No question about it. Every single time there is a skirmish or a hit, it’s one of those individual battles you don’t take your eyes off of, and you wonder if there’s anything more, is something else going to happen?” Pang said in a phone interview. The anniversary of Kadri’s check-to-the-head of Blues defenseman Justin Faulk is Thursday, which will be Game 2 of the … [Read more...] about Will Nazem Kadri be a marked man against St. Louis? Struggling with the cost of living? The Tories think it’s all your own fault
Scarcely a day seems to go by without some Tory MP making a fool of themselves by wading in and trying to be helpful to people struggling with the cost of living crisis. It’s getting to be like Wordle, a regular little tweet – you know it’s coming, even though you can’t say exactly what it will be – in this case, which particular backbencher or member of the government will come up with some outstandingly patronising piece of “advice”. Unlike Wordle, however, what the Tories say is an insult to intelligence. The latest one is somebody called Rachel Maclean, who is a junior minister in charge of safeguarding and partly responsible for that great public policy success – the Afghan refugee resettlement scheme. Her top tip for folks in poverty is to go out and get a better job , and if you can’t do that then beg your employer to let you work longer hours. In her words: “We have often heard in the past when people are facing problems with their budgets that one of the … [Read more...] about Struggling with the cost of living? Bette Midler faces backlash for telling mothers to ‘try breastfeeding’ their babies amid formula shortage
Bette Midler has faced criticism for encouraging mothers to “try breastfeeding ,” during the current baby formula shortage in the United States. The 76-year-old actor discussed breastfeeding in a recent post on Twitter , responding to MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle’s tweet about a what she’s learned about the baby formula production market through the shortage. “The baby formula shortage reveals an amazing secret oligopoly: Three American companies control over 90 per cent of the market,” Ruhle wrote. “Hugely restrictive regulations (thanks to big 5 lobbying) prohibit foreign formulas.” “Name another industry/sector/product like this,” she added. It’s free and available on demand.” Recommended Hocus Pocus sequel, starring original cast, coming to Disney+ in 2022 Bette Midler apologises after ‘outburst’ in which she called West Virginia ‘poor, illiterate’ Bette Midler, Berry Gordy … [Read more...] about Bette Midler faces backlash for telling mothers to ‘try breastfeeding’ their babies amid formula shortage
Young children can easily see disturbing content on YouTube despite age restrictions
The YouTube video starts with a popular British children's cartoon character, Peppa Pig , introducing herself and her family, but there are signs of trouble almost immediately. During the ninth second, Peppa's mother opens her mouth and shouts, "Smoke weed!" The video - a doctored version of a real Peppa episode - deteriorates from there. Over five minutes, there are explosions and racial and homophobic slurs, culminating with Peppa and her parents in dark sunglasses smoking marijuana as rapper Snoop Dogg dances nearby. Since it was uploaded in 2015, the altered video, which has no age restrictions, has been viewed more than 1.5 million times. After years of vowing to police inappropriate content, YouTube continues to deliver violent imagery, drug references, sexually-suggestive sequences and foul, racially-charged language in clips that reach children at a troubling pace, say researchers, parents and consumer groups. YouTube's recommendation algorithm, they say, … [Read more...] about Young children can easily see disturbing content on YouTube despite age restrictions
Woman receives mysterious decades-old letters, confusing even post office
A New York woman was left puzzled after she received several mysterious postcards written by her late mother and dated back to 1960. In early April, Carol Hover of Hornell, New York, received a postcard in the mail dated August 30, 1960. "The first thing I noticed was my mother's handwriting," Hover told WETM . "She passed away back in 2014. I found that it was postmarked from Canada in August of 1960. So, they would have been on their honeymoon." At first, Hover thought this card was a strange fluke in the system, but then she received more postcards. Although it's hard to measure, it is estimated that less than three percent of mail gets lost in the United States. If a package or letter is recovered after a search request is filed, the U.S. Postal Service will resend the mail. For some packages, the shipping label might have fallen off during the shipment process or someone used an incorrect address so it was undeliverable. Other instances include bad weather rubbing … [Read more...] about Woman receives mysterious decades-old letters, confusing even post office
Bottle containing hopeful messages from teenage girls asking for boyfriends found after 56 years
A bottle containing hopeful messages from two teenage girls asking for boyfriends has washed up after drifting in a U.K. river for 56 years. The corked glass bottle was discovered by a group of volunteer litter pickers who were cleaning up the Humber Estuary in Lincolnshire. Inside were two scribbled notes written by 15-year-old pals Jennifer Coleman and Janet Blankley dated August 9, 1966. The love-lorn pair wrote descriptions of themselves and invited teenage boys who found the bottle to write back to them. Janet wrote: "I am 15, not bad looking, long wavy brown, chestnut hair and 5'4. "Anyone interested, a photo will be exchanged in person. Boy who writes. No one under 16 or over 18." Jennifer's note said: "Anyone who finds this please contact J Coleman. "Please write if you are a boy under 18 over 16. Please send a photo and one will be exchanged. Thank you." The girls both included their addresses in Grantham, Lincs. It is thought the girls were on a day trip to … [Read more...] about Bottle containing hopeful messages from teenage girls asking for boyfriends found after 56 years

Study: Vegetarian, vegan children not nutritionally deficient
According to a Canadian study, vegetarian and vegan children do not show any more nutritional deficiencies or stunted growth than their meat-eating peers. However, parents may need to take extra care in certain aspects of their diet in order to prevent them from being underweight, warn the authors of the research. Is a vegetarian or vegan diet good or bad for children's health? This is a question that has been increasingly debated over the last few years; now a scientific consensus is beginning to form around the subject. Indeed, several studies have indicated that there is no formal evidence of deficiencies in vegetarian children, compared to those who eat meat. Such findings have now been reinforced by a recent study published in the journal Pediatrics. Conducted in Canada by researchers at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto, the research involved 8907 children, aged six months to eight years, who were followed for about three and a half years. At the beginning of the study, … [Read more...] about Study: Vegetarian, vegan children not nutritionally deficient
Pvt Investment to Trickle in Once Capacity Utilisation Goes Beyond 75%: Uday Kotak
Private investment, which has been muted for a long time, will start trickling in once the overall capacity utilisation in the system goes beyond 75 per cent that, in turn, will help unleash ‘animal spirits’, CII President Uday Kotak said on Wednesday. The COVID-19 pandemic gave a shock to capacity utilisation and as companies go to capacity utilisation above 75 per cent, they will start looking at expansion and making investments, Kotak told PTI in an interview. “The second and the third points for getting private investment…a stable interest rate, and a stable tax regime. Additionally, if capacity utilisation goes up and we keep up stability on interest rates and taxation, and also policies of entry and exit from different sectors, we can actually create a positive environment for getting people”s animal spirits back,” he said. The term ”animal spirits” was coined by celebrated economist John Maynard Keynes to refer to investors” confidence in taking action in terms of … [Read more...] about Pvt Investment to Trickle in Once Capacity Utilisation Goes Beyond 75%: Uday Kotak
