TEL AVIV — A key finding in the Republican House Intelligence Committee’s 250-page report on alleged Russian collusion raises immediate questions about the claim from Obama-era intelligence agencies that Moscow interfered in the U.S. election to ensure Donald Trump’s victory. The extensive report, released on Friday, concluded a yearlong investigation finding no evidence that Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign colluded with Russia. One section of the report finds that the Intelligence Community’s (IC) assessment of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s strategic intentions for allegedly interfering in the U.S. election “did not employ proper analytic tradecraft” and contained “significant intelligence tradecraft failings that undermine confidence” in the judgments, including the failure to “be independent of political considerations.” The report was referring to the conclusion of a January 6, 2017 U.S. … [Read more...] about GOP Probe: ‘Significant Failings’ with Obama Intel Agencies’ Claim Putin Favored Trump over Hillary
Why putin wants trump
Former U.S. ambassador to Russia Thomas Pickering said Vladimir Putin’s goal is for Russia to be seen on an equal footing with the United States. “Putin wants to promote Russia as an equal co-partner with the United States… he’s a politician. He wants to stay in office in his own country, and a lot of the policies he’s pursuing are designed to achieve that, just as some that President Trump is doing,” Pickering said Friday on CNN’s “New Day.” Pickering also worked in the administrations of presidents of both parties, as an ambassador for both Democratic and Republican presidents in India, Israel, El Salvador, Nigeria, and Jordan, as well as being the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations from 1989 to 1992. He said he wished that President Donald Trump had “the capacity, the understanding, and the depth” to resolve problems with Russia “rather than merely promoting his own kind of narcissistic traits before the … [Read more...] about Ex-Amb. POLITICS 07/13/2018 09:57 am ET Updated 46 minutes ago The Russian leader will likely pledge progress on issues like Syria at their Helsinki summit. But officials from U.S.-allied countries say Trump should be skeptical. By Akbar Shahid Ahmed President Donald Trump will soon have the high-profile summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin that he has sought for years. But with days to go until Monday’s talks in Helsinki, Finland, the people with the highest stakes in the meeting — an American public still rattled by Russia’s 2016 election interference and key U.S. allies wary of Putin’s agenda in their neighborhoods — have less to celebrate. Trump’s “natural inclination is to admire Putin and to reach out to him” because of his affinity for autocrats, said Charles Kupchan, the top White House Europe official under former President Barack Obama. Meanwhile, the president is publicly critical of democratically-elected … [Read more...] about Vladimir Putin Has Trump Right Where He Wants Him
DONALD Trump today declared he wanted to have an "extraordinary relationship" with Vladimir Putin after the pair came face-to-face at a historic summit in Helsinki. The pair posed for photographs and shook hands before heading into a conference room to begin their discussions away from the cameras. The meeting came after Putin left Trump waiting for 45 minutes and the US President claimed America's relationship with Russia had NEVER been worse. In his opening remarks, Trump said: "Most importantly we have a lot of good things to talk about. Military, missiles, China our mutual friend president Xi. We have great opportunities together. "We have not been getting along very well over the past years. I feel we’ll have an extraordinary relationship - getting along with Russia is a good thing, not a bad thing." Their private meeting lasted roughly two hours, after which Trump was asked how it went and replied: "I think it's a good start. A very, very good start for everybody". … [Read more...] about Donald Trump says he wants ‘extraordinary relationship’ with Vladimir Putin as pair hold historic summit in Helsinki
