Tough diplomatic challenges ahead
As the tenth largest economy in the world, Korea also must tackle the breathtaking shifts aggressively. After being invited to the summit as a non-member head of state, Yoon responded by stressing the importance of “international solidarity in protecting freedom and peace.” The comment is a manifestation of his administration’s strategic decision to discontinue the strategic ambiguity the Moon Jae-in administration sought for five years. Strengthened cooperation with NATO can offer practical benefits to Korea. If the Yoon administration strikes a global partnership with NATO as planned, Korean companies can advance into the space market in Europe more easily. The partnership will also help Korean companies with competitiveness in semiconductors and reactors, not to mention helping reduce Korea’s overreliance on China for exports and imports. But everything has both dark and bright sides. Reinforced cooperation with NATO will surely test Korea’s diplomatic capabilities. After Yoon … [Read more...] about Tough diplomatic challenges ahead

Chennai’s The Little Theatre is back on stage with a theatre festival for young audiences
What characterises Cheriana, The Little Theatre’s studio space today, is rhythm. After a quiet couple of years, back rolls, cartwheels and foot-tapping beats created from loose tyres and metal tools fill the space as the cast and crew inch towards show day. As Thaatha and his minions mime behind curtained walls trying to revive little Gingo’s imagination, The Garage Gang comes alive once again. The play, that relies heavily on slapstick and physical comedy, will kick off The Little Theatre’s 11th edition of The Little Festival, an international theatre festival for young audiences that returns after a pandemic-led hiatus of two years. The home production will be accompanied by a dance-theatre showcase Hansel & Gretel in Takadin , The Story of the Lake : a shadow puppetry rendition from South Korea, workshops, and a panel discussion spread from July 1 to 8. The story follows a little girl named Gingo and her relentless pursuit to find her ‘imagination’, with the help of … [Read more...] about Chennai’s The Little Theatre is back on stage with a theatre festival for young audiences

UCLA and the University of Southern California, two of the best-known powers of college sports, will leave their century-old affiliation with the Pac-12 Conference in a seismic shift to the Big Ten, the schools announced Thursday. The stunning announcement means that by the fall of 2024, the Big Ten, headquartered in Rosemont, Illinois, will have member schools as far west as Los Angeles and as far east as Piscataway, New Jersey, and College Park, Maryland . USC and UCLA confirmed the move in separate statements Thursday, acknowledging their long histories in the Pac-12, as well as the opportunities the Big Ten presents student-athletes. And with both schools shifting conferences, the crosstown rivalry will remain intact. "Additionally, it means enhanced resources for all of our teams, from academic support to mental health and wellness," UCLA Chancellor Gene D. Black and Athletics Director Martin Jarmond said in a statement. "And although this move increases travel … [Read more...] about USC, UCLA leave the Pac-12 for the Big Ten
