Bostonians call it "Marathon Monday," the day the annual 26.2-mile Boston Marathon is held. It's also Patriots Day, when state residents simultaneously commemorate the anniversary of the American Revolutionary War battles of Lexington and Concord. Now, the latter is taking on another meaning, as the title of an upcoming Mark Wahlberg movie about the April 15, 2013 bombings that killed three people and injured 264 near the finish line of the Boston Marathon. Last June, a judge sentenced the surviving attacker , convicted bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev , to death. His brother, Tamerlan, died four days after the bombings. The siblings planted two homemade pressure-cooker bombs near the marathon's finish line, killing Martin Richard, Lingzi Lu and Krystle Campbell. They also were responsible for the murder of a Massachusetts Institute of Technology police officer, Sean Collier. CBS Films released a two-minute trailer for the film this week. It shows Wahlberg as the fictional Police … [Read more...] about First look at Mark Wahlberg film about the Boston Marathon bombings, “Patriots Day”

Why ‘Stronger’ with Jake Gyllenhaal is the Boston Marathon bombing movie we didn’t know we needed
When two homemade bombs exploded near the finish line of the 2013 Boston Marathon, spewing ball bearings, shrapnel and nails into the bodies of more than 250 children and adults, photos streamed online in real time. Later, these horrifying images would memorialize the extraordinary acts of complete strangers, inspire the #BostonStrong movement and help lead authorities to the perpetrators. Pretty much every bit information about the Boston Marathon bombings has been photographed and dissected, from the dramatic search for the suspects, Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, to heartfelt profiles of the victims, survivors and doctors and nurses who helped save lives. As if we didn't fully grasp the enormity of the event, last year, Boston's other famous son, Mark Wahlberg (not Matt Damon), starred in Patriots Day , about the hunt for the Tsarnaev brothers. Do we really need another film about the Boston Marathon bombing? Turns out, we do. Stronger tells the story of Jeff Bauman … [Read more...] about Why ‘Stronger’ with Jake Gyllenhaal is the Boston Marathon bombing movie we didn’t know we needed
Donald Trump rails against Pat Cipollone subpoena: “Dangerous Precedent”
Donald Trump has hit at the January 6 House Select Committee subpoenaing Pat Cipollone, suggesting trying to interview White House counsel for "dirt" will "set a terrible precedent." Trump was reacting to the news that the panel has subpoenaed Cipollone following damning testimony from Cassidy Hutchinson on Tuesday. Hutchinson, a former top aide to White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, told the panel that Cipollone was concerned Trump would face criminal charges if he joined his supporters in marching to the Capitol on January 6. "Mr. Cipollone said something to the effect of 'please make sure that we don't go up to the Capitol, Cassidy, keep in touch with me,'" Hutchinson testified. "We're going to get charged with every crime imaginable if we make that movement happen." Writing on Truth Social, Trump hit out at the panel for subpoenaing the White House lawyer to give evidence while continuing his attacks on Hutchinson about the bombshell allegations she made under … [Read more...] about Donald Trump rails against Pat Cipollone subpoena: “Dangerous Precedent”
Why Target Only Zakir Naik, Why Not Asaram Too? Tribunal Questions Enforcement Directorate
New Delhi: After NIA suffered an embarrassment with quashing of its Red Corner Notice request by the Interpol, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday was pulled up by a judicial tribunal over its investigation against controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik. Justice Manmohan Singh, who heads the Appellate Tribunal for PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act) at New Delhi, restrained the agency from taking over Naik's properties attached by the agency, and drew a parallel between Naik and self-styled spiritual leader Asaram Bapu. "I can name 10 babas who have properties worth more than Re 10,000 crore each and they are facing criminal cases. Have you acted against even one of them? What have you done against Asaram Bapu?" it asked the counsel for the ED. Raising questions whether ED was being selective in acting against Naik, the Tribuna’s chairman observed that the agency seems to have done nothing in the last 10 years about confiscating properties of Asaram but looked … [Read more...] about Why Target Only Zakir Naik, Why Not Asaram Too? J6 Committee Didn’t Reach Out To Secret Service
The U.S. Secret Service is claiming the Jan. 6 committee didn’t contact them before airing testimony from a former White House aide that alleged former President Donald Trump physically attacked his limo driver, according to Politico. Former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson testified Tuesday that Trump became “irate” when he was told he could not go to the Capitol so he “lunge[d]” toward the head of his security detail. Her claims have since been refuted, according to several reports. U.S. Secret Service Chief of Communications Anthony Guglielmi said the committee did not ask Secret Service personnel to reappear or testify in the 10 days leading up to Hutchinson’s hearing on the topic regarding the same matter, according to Politico. “We were not asked to reappear before the Committee in response to yesterday’s new information and we plan on formally responding on the record,” Guglielmi said in an email to Politico. “We have and will continue to make any member of the Secret … [Read more...] about J6 Committee Didn’t Reach Out To Secret Service
