A five-month-old girl was shot in the head and killed Friday afternoon in Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s (D) Chicago. ABC 7 / Chicago Sun-Times notes that the shooting occurred “in the 7700 block of South Shore Drive.” FOX 32 reports the infant was sitting in a vehicle when someone in an “unknown vehicle” began shooting and shot the girl in the head. The infant, who was identified as Cecilia Thomas, was struck in the head Friday evening when shots were fired from another vehicle in the South Shore neighborhood, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. Cecilia was taken to a hospital where she later died. A 41-year-old man in another vehicle was in good condition at a hospital after suffering a gunshot wound near his eye, Chicago police said. But when it became unclear if she would be healthy enough to leave the intensive care unit, her medical team and UNC’s chaplain’s office rallied together in under a week to put on a wedding at the hospital’s own chapel. A whopping 98kg python has been caught in Florida - believed to be the biggest in the state's history. Experts caught the 18-foot female in December 2021, after using a male like a "magnet" to track it down. The Burmese python was discovered in the Everglades, where biologists wrestled with it for 20 minutes. The snake was eventually captured and killed, before being put in a freezer for several months. It is estimated that she was up to 20 years old when caught, and was the approximate height of a giraffe if stretched out vertically. Pythons have become pests in Florida as invasive snakes with no major predators, out-competing native species.
