Cars are now more connected than ever. And every time someone drives a modern vehicle a certain amount of data is generated, which typically goes to the automaker. But as connected car technology advances, automakers and governments are starting to explore how that could be leveraged to improve traffic, provide real-time updates to drivers on road conditions and cut down on crashes. Dubbed vehicle-to-everything (V2X), It's the on-road extension of "the internet of things," which is the term for a group of physical objects interconnected through a computer network. In this case, it's cars operating within a certain distance from one another. Here's a rundown of what V2X is, how it can be used and how soon it can be on the road. What are the different applications of V2X? There are numerous applications that researchers and manufacturers are exploring right now, Vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) technology allows vehicles within a certain distance from each other to share relevant … [Read more...] about What is Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) Technology and How Does It Work?

Ekaya’s CEO, Palak Shah, admits Gucci Garden was on her radar, ever since it débuted on the brand’s Instagram page. So that’s where she headed the day after she wrapped up her show at Project Cousu d’Or in Paris last week. “My first view of the Gucci Garden was from a café at the Piazza Della Signoria, in Florence,” says Shah. The millennial pink sign set against the backdrop of the beautiful piazza compelled her to head there immediately. The Palazzo della Mercanzia, dating back to 1337, has been home to the Gucci Museo since 2011, and now hosts the combination of restaurant, museum and shop. The retail experiment consists of a ground floor, where guests can indulge in a range of Gucci accessories that can’t be found at any other location — or even online. Think a bazaar-like exhibition space where exclusives from the label include stationery, match boxes, canvas bags, music boxes and maps of Florence, as well as niche magazine titles. “The absolute maximalist presentation, with … [Read more...] about How does my Gucci Garden grow?
Jennifer Lopez has lived more lives than most celebrities. She’s been a dancer and a movie star and a pop singer and an entrepreneur and a reality-TV mainstay and part of the reason for the existence of Google Images . She’s been box-office gold and box-office poison. She’s considered one of the most influential Latina celebrities in America, both revered and denigrated—though not always in equal measure . Consider it a minor miracle, then, that Halftime , the Netflix documentary about Lopez’s career, has room to trace more than 30 years of fame as well as follow her in the months leading up to her performance at the 2020 Super Bowl. Like other celebrity-endorsed portraits , Halftime feels both candid and safe. The director Amanda Micheli’s interviewees include only Lopez and members of her team—her parents, her manager, and, yes, Ben Affleck—and the behind-the-scenes footage comes across as familiar. Yet Halftime isn’t entirely a hagiography. After the … [Read more...] about No One Does a Comeback Like J. Lo
Hi y’all. I am Tami Rose and I love Mississippi. I love our beautiful wide-open spaces and all our amazing waterways. I come from a beautiful state where the people are so precious and kind to one another in everyday life. We hold doors for each other and make eye contact and speak to strangers. We are the hospitality state, and we try to make everyone feel welcome. Yet at a political level, especially when history gets involved, we can be unspeakably cruel to each other. I cannot say how ashamed I am of my state today. It grieves my soul that Mississippi will play an instrumental role in overturning Roe v. Wade . This opinion is a nuclear bomb to the health and autonomy of women. Additionally, it will roll back all of the gains our society made over the last half-century—especially as it is couched in this blistering opinion by Justice Alito that has been leaked from the Supreme Court. The Alito opinion as written does not just roll back Roe v. Wade —it severely limits … [Read more...] about I Own a Sex Shop in Mississippi. SCOTUS Is Coming for Me Next.
On Wednesday’s broadcast of the Fox Business Network’s “Evening Edit,” House Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Rep. Kevin Brady (R-TX) stated that President Joe Biden’s plan to have a federal gas tax holiday while also not depleting the Highway Trust Fund that the federal gas tax funds doesn’t make any sense because the president hasn’t identified a source for the money to replace the lost revenue, and that this means that his federal gas tax holiday plan will undercut infrastructure funding. Brady stated, [relevant remarks being around 00:55] “[T]he president just dismissed, oh, we have to backfill it. And he said we’ll put extra money in there. I don’t know where that comes from. It does undermine the infrastructure. There’s no guarantee this ends after three months. We know how gimmicky Congress can be. And you’re right, prices keep going up, so even with this tiny, temporary, little 18-cent savings, that’s going to be eaten up. You’ve got to go to the core issue, which is … [Read more...] about Brady: Biden Doesn’t Say Where Money to Replace Gas Tax in Highway Fund Will Come From

A decade ago, financial advice meant visiting a primly dressed, mostly middle-aged CA’s office and trying to make sense of mundane jargon, percentages, figures, benefits, and risks... Cut to the present: A brigade of 20 and 30-somethings, in far from formal attire, have taken over social media to dole out financial know-how from the comforts of their homes — their backgrounds, however, keep changing from nightclubs to parking lots, office cubicles to automobile showrooms and so on. Say hello to finfluencers or financial influencers, sporting mock moustaches, dramatic expressions, and exaggerated accents, in a bid to simplify finance. They creatively use everyday concepts such as shoe sales, vacations, and buttered parathas even, to draw comparisons with financial terms and explain them through short fun Reels, posts or YouTube videos. Given that Income Tax season is upon us. You might just want to pay attention. The rise of finfluencers first started with the COVID-19 … [Read more...] about Wondering what to do with your salary? WhatsApp has launched a major new security update, meaning that it is fully embracing end-to-end encryption. WhatsApp message are already securely encrypted as they are passed between the people who are sending them, meaning that nobody – including WhatsApp – is able to see them. But, until now, any backups of those messages have not been encrypted, leaving them potentially open to hackers. Now WhatsApp says that it will include end-to-end encrypted backups, too, meaning that they are secure all the way through the process. The company said that it had overcome “the final hurdle” in creating an entirely end-to-end encrypted messaging service. In an announcement, Mark Zuckerberg said the feature had required building an “entirely new framework” to make sure the backups worked. “We’re adding another layer of privacy and security to WhatsApp: an end-to-end encryption option for the backups people choose to store in Google Drive or iCloud,” Mark Zuckerberg said in his … [Read more...] about WhatsApp introduces major new security update to safely store people’s messages
Jordan Lyles needed a second to ponder the question. Posed with a premise — if an organization could choose a top-level catching prospect or a top-level prospect at any other position, which should it select? — Lyles leaned back in his chair in the Orioles clubhouse, playing pretend general manager for a moment. The decision depended on a belief that both players were virtually identical, other than their position. Lyles pointed out that scouting reports on high schoolers or college stars don’t always accurately predict how a player might turn out in five years. With that said, the veteran right-hander came to his conclusion. “If it’s close talent-wise, you go with the franchise catcher over the franchise anything, I think, because there are only 30 starting catchers, and now half the teams are platooning,” Lyles said. “Buster Poseys don’t come around [often], and those are more valuable long-term for organizations, I think, because you don’t have to continue to draft catchers … [Read more...] about For the Orioles and Nationals, a rebuild looks a lot better with a star behind the plate | ANALYSIS
