WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump made the case on Friday that he deserves to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his work on North Korea and Syria, but complained he probably would never get the honor. REUTERS/Carlos Barria Trump, a Republican, capped off a rambling Rose Garden news conference with a well-oiled gripe that former Democratic President Barack Obama, a nemesis, won the Nobel Prize in 2009, just months into his first term in office. “They gave it to Obama. He didn’t even know what he got it for. He was there for about 15 seconds and he got the Nobel Prize. What is nobel peace prize
THE Nobel Peace Prize has been won by some of history's most famous and iconic figures like Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King, Mother Teresa and Barack Obama. The award is one of five - including Chemistry, Literature, Physics and Medicine - set up by Swedish industrialist, inventor and armaments manufacturer Alfred Nobel. Who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2018? Denis Mukwege and Nadia Murad have won the 2018 Nobel peace prize. They were recognised for their efforts to end the use of sexual violence as a weapon in war. The committee said Congolese doctor Denis Mukwege had been “the foremost, most unifying symbol both nationally and internationally of the struggle to end sexual violence in war and armed conflict”. Nadia Murad of the Yazidi minority in Iraq was captured by Isis, raped and subjected to other abuses. The committee said she showed “uncounted courage in recounting her own suffering”. By Kate Grant | December 8, 2018 at 8:45 am Here in Silicon Valley, we are surrounded by brilliant minds and a collective drive to change the world. But few of us have put our own lives on the line for what we know is right. On Monday, Dr. Denis Mukwege, a hero for brutalized women in his native Democratic Republic of the Congo, will receive the Nobel Peace Prize, along with an extraordinarily courageous young activist, Nadia Murad, herself a victim of profound sexual violence. There is no one I can think of more deserving of the prize than Mukwege, whom I’ve had the honor to know for nearly a decade. Mukwege is not a household name. But it should be. And, I dearly hope the Nobel Peace Prize will give Mukwege the platform he deserves. He founded Panzi Hospital in the war-torn Democratic Republic of the Congo. The hospital treats women and girls who have been victims of exceptional violence, including gang rape and vaginal assault with weapons, not just male organs. … [Read more...] about Opinion: Nobel Peace Prize winner is inspiration to all

He then immediately whined to the New York tabloid about losing out an Emmy Award for his former reality TV show “The Apprentice.” “Well, they’ll never give it to me,” Trump said about the Nobel prize, which he was rumored in some conservative circles to be a contender for with regard to his administration’s attempts at improving global relations with North Korea. “We should have gotten the Emmy for ‘The Apprentice,’ you know?” Trump tangentially added. “I had the No. 1 show, ‘The Apprentice.’ Arnold Schwarzenegger blew it. Big movie star. It was dead in two nights. I had it for 14 seasons.” Trump claimed … [Read more...] about Donald Trump Makes Nobel Peace Prize Prediction, Then Rants About Emmy Award Loss

Today, Rep. John Delaney, D-Md., confirmed that he has nominated the restaurateur and humanitarian for the 2019 award. Delaney, who has already announced his presidential campaign for 2020, said he could not discuss any specifics of his nomination or what motivated it. The five-member Norwegian Nobel Committee, which awards the annual prize, discourages nominators from making any public announcements. The deadline for nominations is Feb. 1, and the committee will announce the laureates next October.
