Digital Revolution is in vogue and is here to stay. Many people have yet to realize just how rapid and profound the current digital revolution is, or how quickly it’s breaking down old institutions and changing the way of life. Virtually no part of our daily life has remained uninfluenced by these sweeping changes. Be it the way we communicate, the way we buy and sell, the way we do our banking, the way we commute, the way we dine – every minute aspect of our current day life, wherever we may be, is being overwhelmed by these technological advances. Therefore when things are changing so fast and so frequently, the legislative process must also factor in the times we live in. Consequentially, establishing appropriate mechanisms for “Post Legislative Review” has graduated to become a necessity rather than a choice. Various jurisdictions right at the onset of this Digital Revolution had understood the need of the hour to cope with the impact and had adopted timely … [Read more...] about Post Legislative Review Mechanisms – Whether A Need Or Necessity In The Current Digital Revolution Age

Sanders Gaining Digital Media Traction With ‘Bernie TV’
Sen. Bernie Sanders has quietly put together the foundation of a digital media network out of his D.C. office, taking his message directly to followers and amassing a hefty audience along the way, New York Magazine reports. "Bernie TV" seems to have mirrored the idea that was bandied about for "Trump TV" ahead of the 2016 presidential election. Am I concerned "that people might see me and Trump saying the same thing? Yes, I am," Sanders told New York Mag. "My point of view is a very, very different one. My point of view is the corporate media, by definition, is owned by large multinational corporations: their bottom line is to make as much money as they can. They are part of the Establishment." Sanders has conducted several 30-minute interviews that have run on Facebook Live, including one with Bill Nye that amassed 4.5 million views, NY Mag reports. That spawned more than 500 short policy-based videos and an idea to host a townhall-style program that aired on Facebook Live, too, NY … [Read more...] about Sanders Gaining Digital Media Traction With ‘Bernie TV’

Robby Mook: Secret Service Needs to Protect Candidates Digitally
The Secret Service needs to become a full-service protection outfit for presidential candidates, including staving off cybersecurity threats, Robby Mook wrote in a column for The Washington Post. The assassination of Robert Kennedy 50 years ago was the tipping point for presidential candidates to receive physical protection from the Secret Service; the hacks that doomed Hillary Clinton in 2016 should compel the digital protection of them, too, Mook wrote. "Given the warning from Director of National Intelligence Daniel Coats that we are 'just one click of the keyboard away' from another attack on our elections, Congress should act to protect candidates as it did after Kennedy was killed," wrote Mook, Clinton's 2016 campaign manager. "It’s time the Secret Service provided digital security to presidential candidates, their families and their campaigns," Mook writes. "Campaigns simply do not have access to the information required to take on nation-states," Mook writes. "The Secret … [Read more...] about Robby Mook: Secret Service Needs to Protect Candidates Digitally

POLITICS 07/27/2018 12:06 pm ET What can a past failure tell us about the current privacy push? By Paul Blumenthal WASHINGTON ― Regulating big tech companies like Facebook is hot again. Members of Congress are talking about it. Advocacy groups are pushing for it. CEOs like Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg are making vague promises that they’ll consider accepting it. And now the Trump administration is in talks with big players like Facebook and Google to press for new rules. Don’t buy the hype. All of this has happened before. The last big blowup over privacy occurred less than a decade ago, when Washington policymakers zeroed in on the pervasive tracking of internet users by tech platforms, advertisers and data brokers. That time, the pro-regulation folks failed utterly. Here’s what happened. The Proposal America’s last big fight over internet privacy began in the final years of the 2000s, when concerns over consumer privacy … [Read more...] about The Last Time Congress Threatened To Enact Digital Privacy Laws, It Didn’t Go So Well
