Israel has defeated drought for decades, and it could be a great example for Cape Town

Uncredited/AP Cape Town, South Africa has been facing a drought crisis for three years.  As complete water depletion draws near, South Africa's leaders could look to other countries like Israel — a country that has prevented devastating drought for decades.  Israel's founders prioritized water conservation before they were an official nation (1948). Israel purifies nearly 90% of its sewage supply as an alternative source of water for agricultural use. Around the world, most countries lose roughly 30% of their water supply after it's been transported — Israel loses less than 10% by preventing leaks and repairing pipes regularly.  Cape Town, a city of some 4 million people, is on the verge of running out of water. Cape Town is cheapest long haul destination for UK holidaymakers – study

Local price falls and a weaker South African rand have combined to bring prices down 20% since last autumn, Post Office Travel Money said. Japanese capital Tokyo leapfrogged the coastal city in last year’s Long Haul Holiday Report. But the latest study found UK visitors to Cape Town typically pay the equivalent of just £30.33 for a three-course evening meal for two with a bottle of house wine, £1.31 for a cup of filter coffee and £1.44 for a bottle of local lager in a bar. The total cost of a basket of 10 tourist staples was £51.48.
