What Weisselberg’s guilty plea means for Trumps

August 18, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

The Trump Organization's former chief financial officer plead guilty Thursday to 15 felonies on Thursday and admitted he conspired with the company to avoid taxes on corporate benefits. Allen Weisselberg reached a plea deal with the Manhattan district attorney's office that will likely have major implications for the Trump Organization. Weisselberg is expected to be sentenced to five months in prison with potential time off for good behavior, which means he could end up serving around 100 days. However, Weisselberg's plea deal does not include cooperation in a wider probe into former President Donald Trump and he will not implicate Trump by pleading guilty. Weisselberg will be required to testify at a trial concerning charges against the Trump Organization due to begin in October if prosecutors call on him to do so. His testimony could prove a major factor in the outcome of that trial. Trump has not been charged with any crime arising from the investigation and … [Read more...] about What Weisselberg’s guilty plea means for Trumps

Parents protest replacement of textbooks with tabs

June 24, 2016 by www.thehindu.com

A private school, which had introduced tablets as a replacement for textbooks, withdrew the move on Thursday after a protest by parents. The Sri Chaitanya Techno School at Bannerghatta Road, which follows the CBSE syllabus, had introduced the tablets for students between Classes 3 and 6. Parents felt that the move would end with children getting addicted to such devices. There’s also the cost factor: parents allege that they would have to pay an average of Rs. 15,000 for the device and the content or pre-loaded syllabus. Satish H.P., a parent said that while he is not against tablets and other such learning devices, he is wary of introducing it to his child at such an early age. “Replacing textbooks with tablets can be detrimental to the child’s learning. The school initially said it was mandatory. Later, they made it optional. But we do not want students in one class to have different learning experiences,” he said. ‘Addicted to the screen’ Gauri Kamath, another parent, … [Read more...] about Parents protest replacement of textbooks with tabs

August 18, 2022 by www.news18.com

The fourth phase of the Common Universities Entrance Test (CUET) 2022 began on Wednesday. On the second day of phase four of the exam, August 18, students found the papers to be easy except for mathematics, which has been considered as little moderate in difficulty level. The economics paper had questions based on concepts taught in class 12 while accountancy and English papers were on the easier, claimed students. In economics, “there was one case study with five questions and surprisingly the graph based questions were more like data interpretation. Topics covered included macro-economic policy indicator, goal of five-year plan, great leap forward campaign, among others,” said Amitendra Kumar, Product Head – CUET & Under Graduate Programmes, Career Launcher. First boys emerge from Thailand cave as rescue mission enters final act

July 9, 2018 by www.nbcnews.com

CHIANG RAI, Thailand — Rescuers in northern Thailand on Sunday extracted four members of a youth soccer team from the cave where they had been trapped for more than two weeks, signaling the final act of a saga that has gripped the world. Three of the boys were taken to a hospital by helicopter while the fourth was taken by an ambulance, Chiang Rai Gov. Narongsak Osottanakorn said at a news conference Sunday night local time. "We were faster than expected, more successful than I expected, and everyone is happy," he said. As efforts ended for the night, the rescue operation chief said they would resume in 10 to 20 hours because workers "used all the oxygen" and needed to reset their air tanks. Based on that timeframe, rescue operations were set to resume at around 7 a.m. Monday (8 p.m. ET Sunday), but when that time arrived it was not clear if the effort had resumed. Members of the audience broke out in applause when the rescue was announced. The boys traveled more than … [Read more...] about First boys emerge from Thailand cave as rescue mission enters final act
