Brits are set to be battered by three days of thunderstorms, heavy rain and gale force winds as a “revved up jet stream” brings in the storms from the Atlantic. After high temperatures for much of May and a warm weekend, people will have to dig out the coats and umbrellas as unseasonably poor conditions hit. Met Office forecaster Aidan McGivern said: “Three days or so of rain, showers and a keen breeze especially on Wednesday and Thursday before the weather settles down for the weekend.” Looking at today, Mr McGivern said that there will be “lively showers” up and down the country. “Quite widely by mid-morning showers popping up just about anywhere and they will be lively in places, particularly in the south there will be hail and thunder where these showers occur,” he said. The unsettled weather is coming from the Atlantic jetstream ( Image: WXCharts) “A keen breeze in the North East making it feel cool but further south, lighter winds, temperatures around … [Read more...] about UK weather forecast: Thundery showers and gales for ‘three days due to jet stream’

Watch: Homeless North Carolina Veteran Gifted Home from Local Charity
A homeless veteran living in North Carolina has received the keys to a Winston-Salem home thanks to a local nonprofit that provides veterans with permanent housing solutions. “First thing I said was thank you Jesus and thank you God for the people who allow me to even come in the house,” veteran Dworn Ricks told WXII. “That was the greatest thing, to know that I have somewhere to go.” Ricks – who served his country for 14 years, most of them in the National Guard – has lived “in and out of his car” over the past couple of years, WXII reported. “ In 2021, 19,750 veterans were experiencing sheltered homelessness,” which accounts for “11 out of every 10,000 veterans in the country,” per the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Thankfully for Ricks, Housing 4 Our Heroes was able to step in and provide the North Carolina veteran with a home. “ Housing 4 Our Heroes is a permanent housing project” by the North Carolina-based nonprofit organization … [Read more...] about Watch: Homeless North Carolina Veteran Gifted Home from Local Charity
Johnny Depp trial is driving a new online economy. This ex-LA prosecutor is all in
LOS ANGELES: Emily D. Baker is exasperated. In the penultimate week of Amber Heard and Johnny Depp's defamation trial, Baker at times rises from her seat in her home studio or fans herself with a small blue book of the federal rules of evidence as she delivers a steaming critique of Heard's attorney Elaine Bredehoft. "This is preposterous, Elaine! You don't do speaking objections," Baker, 44, seethes as red lights flash to indicate another thousand subscribers have signed up to her channel. A so-called super-chat message flashes across the screen from a viewer who paid US$10 (RM44) to let the audience know she thinks the judge is being too easy on Bredehoft. "This is a mess, and the jury is going to see it's a mess," Baker adds. It is just another day in the weekslong trial for this former Los Angeles deputy district attorney turned YouTuber whose livestreamed commentary has drawn audiences surpassing that of mainstream outlets like Fox or Entertainment Tonight on the platform. As … [Read more...] about Johnny Depp trial is driving a new online economy. This ex-LA prosecutor is all in
Her daughter was shot on live TV. Now she’s marching to demand gun control
Alison Parker had a close relationship with her mom. On Mother's Day in 2015, she took both of her parents wine-tasting and hiking around the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia. And every Monday, she met her mom after her morning shift ended at the local news station to share lunch and do some shopping. "Those are the things I miss," Barbara Parker tells Newsweek . The world watched in horror when Alison, a 24-year-old reporter, was fatally shot on live TV on August 26, 2015, along with her colleague Adam Ward, a 27-year-old photojournalist, both with WDBJ7. The two were conducting a live interview at Bridgewater Plaza in Moneta, Virginia, when a gunman approached and killed them. The suspect, later identified as a former employee at their Roanoke news station, fatally shot himself before police could apprehend him. Much of the aftermath of the shooting played out on social media, as the suspect posted video footage and updates to Twitter as he fled. "For lack of better words, … [Read more...] about Her daughter was shot on live TV. Now she’s marching to demand gun control

Governor saw deadly arrest video months before prosecutors
Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards and his top lawyers privately watched a key video of Black motorist Ronald Greene drawing his final breaths in his deadly 2019 arrest six months before prosecutors even knew the footage existed. While the Democratic governor has distanced himself from allegations of a cover-up in the explosive case by contending evidence was promptly turned over to authorities, an Associated Press investigation found that neither Edwards, his staff nor the state police he oversees acted urgently to get the crucial footage into the hands of those with the power to charge the white troopers seen stunning, punching and dragging Greene. The video shows a bruised and bloody Greene going limp and drawing his final breaths — critical moments and audio that are absent from other footage turned over. It wouldn't reach prosecutors until nearly two years after Greene’s May 10, 2019, death on a rural roadside near Monroe. Now three years have passed and still no … [Read more...] about Governor saw deadly arrest video months before prosecutors
