In his leaked draft Supreme Court opinion, Justice Samuel Alito argues that overturning Roe v. Wade would allow “women on both sides of the abortion issue to seek to affect the legislative process.” If women in a post-Roe era don’t like state laws that restrict abortion access, or laws that preserve the right to have an abortion, Alito envisions a world in which they can step up and change them. Women can vote, he pointed out, and often do so in higher numbers than men. They can lobby and run for office. But advocates for voting access and civil rights say that Alito’s depiction does not account for the parts of the country, particularly in the South, where laws make it harder for the poor and voters of color to cast their ballots, and where racially polarized voting can make it more difficult for abortion rights candidates to gain ground. How states will proceed if Roe v. Wade is overturned May 3, 2022 02:35 Southern states … [Read more...] about Alito says overturning Roe gives women a voice on abortion. A Democratic congressional candidate told his GOP opponent to “f*** off” during a debate held in a synagogue
Democratic congressional candidate Scott Wallace of Pennsylvania cursed at his opponent Brian Fitzpatrick during a debate in a synagogue, telling the Republican representative to "f*** off." "Ironically, there was a later question about the need for civility in politics," Fitzpatrick told WBCB News. "Well, a good start is to not use vulgarities in the sanctuary of a synagogue in the middle of a congressional debate." The expletives came during a debate between the two candidates on Sunday night at the Congregation Tifereth Israel in Bensalem, Pennsylvania. The two candidates are running for the House in the state's first congressional district, a largely Jewish community. According to WBCB, Wallace's outburst "silenced" the audience. Fitzpatrick, who was first elected in 2016, said that he was "stunned" by Wallace's comment. The Democrat dropped the expletive when being questioned about his campaign's attack ad against Fitzpatrick's position on health care. The ad states that … [Read more...] about A Democratic congressional candidate told his GOP opponent to “f*** off” during a debate held in a synagogue
Yoon’s plans for Gender Ministry are up in the air
In a press conference held near the National Assembly in Yeouido, western Seoul, on Monday, a coalition of women’s groups urge President-elect Yoon Suk-yeol to follow through on his campaign promise to abolish the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family. [YONHAP] The head of President-elect Yoon Suk-yeol’s transition team said the campaign pledge to abolish the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family has "not been scrapped," but refused to specify whether the ministry would be allowed to live on. When asked by reporters during a press conference Monday whether Yoon was serious about getting rid of the ministry, Ahn Cheol-soo said Yoon would choose from several "feasible policy directions" reported to him by his aides. The ministry, which is supposed to advance women’s rights, has been accused by some men and even some women's civic groups of intensifying gender rifts. Anti-feminists call the ministry’s very existence “reverse discrimination,” saying women shouldn’t be entitled to … [Read more...] about Yoon’s plans for Gender Ministry are up in the air

Exclusive: Kathy Barnette Refuses to Support GOP Nominee for Senate if It Is Not Her
GOP U.S. Senate candidate Kathy Barnette in an interview on Monday morning refused to support the GOP nominee for U.S. Senate in Pennsylvania if she does not win the nomination on Tuesday. Asked during an appearance on Breitbart News Daily on SiriusXM 125 the Patriot Channel on Monday by Breitbart News editor-in-chief Alex Marlow if she will support whoever wins the nomination, she said she will not. “If you do not win tomorrow, do you intend to support the Republican nominee whoever it is?” Marlow asked. In reply, she said she will not support the Republican nominee against the likely Democrat nominee Lt. Gov. John Fetterman. It is worth noting Fetterman is an avowed socialist, so Barnette refusing to support either Dr. Mehmet Oz or businessman David McCormick if one of them wins instead of her essentially means she would be helping a socialist Democrat win in the general election. “I have no intentions of supporting globalists,” Barnette said. “I believe we have ran out of … [Read more...] about Exclusive: Kathy Barnette Refuses to Support GOP Nominee for Senate if It Is Not Her
Why Democrat Chris Murphy remains optimistic, but isn’t holding his breath for increasing background checks on gun sales
The chances that new background check measures for purchasing firearms will pass Congress are "less than 50-50," Democratic Senator Chris Murphy said Friday. However, it's legislation he's still trying to lead to fruition through conversations with White House officials, including President Donald Trump. This despite Trump's public stance on gun control measures, such as increased background checks, changing nearly every day as lawmakers discuss what steps will be taken to address gun violence once they return from August recess in two and a half weeks. "I am skeptical that these efforts are going to bear fruit. It's very hard to negotiate with this White House when the president's public positions seem to change by the day," the Connecticut senator told reporters in his home state. "I'm sure there will be some people who will say I'm naive to think that we're going to end up getting a proposal through that will significantly expand background checks and be able to get 60 votes in … [Read more...] about Why Democrat Chris Murphy remains optimistic, but isn’t holding his breath for increasing background checks on gun sales
Labour MP Stella Creasy reveals she was threatened with gang rape while at university
Labour’s Stella Creasy was threatened with gang rape during a two-year campaign of sexual harassment at Cambridge University, she has revealed. The MP said college authorities "admonished" her instead of punishing the abusers when she made the complaint after running for a student council role. She said a culture of "privilege and entitlement" is behind the string of allegations of misconduct that politicians have been sharing recently. And she warned the problem is not unique to Parliament. Ms Creasy, now 45, said she remains "terrified" of seeing the men, who have gone on to become doctors, civil servants and "high-fliers". The MP said her first experience of sexual harassment was during her first year at Magdalene College, Cambridge. She said it lasted from 1996 to 1998 and included a campaign of abusive posters when she ran for the role of president of the college's student council. She warned the problem of sexual harassment and misconduct is not unique to … [Read more...] about Labour MP Stella Creasy reveals she was threatened with gang rape while at university
Who is Robert Bowers? Suspect identified in the Pittsburgh Tree of Life Synagogue shooting
Authorities identified Robert Bowers on Saturday afternoon as the suspect in connection with a morning shooting at the Tree of Life Congregation Synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, that left at least eight people dead. A law enforcement official who identified Bowers as the suspect told the Associated Press he was in his 40s. Bowers was a known anti-Semite. About an hour before the shooting, Bowers wrote of the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society on the social media site Gab: "HIAS likes to bring invaders in that kill our people. I can't sit by and watch my people get slaughtered. Screw your optics. I'm going in." His profile on the Twitter-like alt-right platform read, "jews are the children of satan. (john 8:44) --- the lord jesus christ is come in the flesh." Bowers's posts indicate he was not only anti-Jew, but also anti-President Donald Trump. "Trump is a globalist, not a nationalist," Bowers wrote. "There is no #MAGA as long as there is a kike infestation." In another … [Read more...] about Who is Robert Bowers? Donald Trump’s enemies flock to Brian Kemp in bid to thwart MAGA surge
Former President George W. Bush is reported to be attending a fundraiser in support of Georgia governor Brian Kemp in another example of recent and longtime enemies of Donald Trump publicly rallying against the MAGA president's endorsed candidate, David Perdue . Bush is scheduled to appear at a Texas fundraiser on Monday for Kemp at the home of real estate developer Harlan Crow, according to Politico. It was previously confirmed that former Vice President Mike Pence , whose relationship with Trump fell apart after the 2021 U.S. Capitol riot, would be supporting Kemp as the Republican candidate during a rally held one day before the May 24 primary. Charles Bullock, a professor of political science at the University of Georgia, said that with Kemp being "target number one" for Trump, Republicans who do not support the former president and his vision have seen that "the biggest blow they could deliver to begin freeing the GOP of Trumpism" would be to beat his candidate … [Read more...] about Donald Trump’s enemies flock to Brian Kemp in bid to thwart MAGA surge
