POLITICS 04/04/2018 06:29 pm ET This could explain why some evangelicals are willing to overlook that Trump is not a choir boy. By Carol Kuruvilla 15k 46 Social scientists have a number of theories on why President Donald Trump captured the votes of 80 percent of white evangelical Protestants in the 2016 election, much more than his support from any other religious group. And the president still enjoys the approval of 78 percent of white evangelicals, according to a recent Pew Research Center survey. Some researchers have theorized that the economic anxiety of the working class may explain the Trump support, while others cite white Americans’ fears about “cultural displacement.” In a recently published study, a team of sociologists claims there’s another common thread that could explain why some evangelicals are willing to overlook behavior they would typically condemn as immoral, including multiple … [Read more...] about Researchers Discover Common Thread Among Christians Who Voted For Trump

Greenwich became the first London borough to formally bar Donald Trump from entering during his planned state visit to the UK next year. Royal Borough of Greenwich councillors voted unanimously on a motion that stated the US President "would not be welcome" in the area if the state engagement goes ahead. The ban comes after Mr Trump retweeted a string of unverified anti-Islamic videos posted by far-right group Britain First’s deputy leader last month. According to The Evening Standard , Greenwich council expressed “alarm at the decision of President Trump to retweet Islamophobic Propaganda” and “sadness at the President's bigoted attitude towards women and ethnic minorities”. By Jeff Horseman | [email protected], Jordan Graham | [email protected] and Kevin Modesti | [email protected] | The Press-EnterpriseMarch 13, 2018 at 11:39 am The last time it took a sitting president this long to visit California, the presidential airplane had propellers and pre-dated World War II. Instead of traveling by train, as Franklin Roosevelt did 83 years ago, President Donald Trump is taking jet-powered Air Force One to San Diego on Tuesday, March 13. He is scheduled to spend the day addressing members of the military and inspecting border wall prototypes. By early evening, however, Trump will be on a different mission — fundraising. It’s unclear how that might go. On the one hand, numbers suggest Trump could hit turbulence. He lost California by four million votes and his approval rating in the state is abysmal. But California is a huge state and one of Trump’s key themes — immigration — energizes many GOP supporters in the state. When he … [Read more...] about Donald Trump is unpopular in California. The crowd jammed into a private dining room at the back of an Olive Garden on Wednesday night was made up of the hardest of hard-core supporters — true believers burning with passion for President Donald Trump. For about 90 people at the newest Donald Trump Club — this one in deeply Democratic blue Broward County — he was the president who could do no wrong, with public policy and political party counting less than support for all-things-Trump, which counted for everything. How’s he doing? “Phenomenal. Where do I start?” said Andrew Brett of Wilton Manors. “Trump could find a cure for cancer, and they would tear it down saying it’s not right. And I still support his tweeting.”Barbara Rizzo of West Palm Beach, who wasn’t anywhere near Brett, said later that if Trump sneezed, “they’d go ‘he polluted the air.’ ”Any failures during the president’s almost 15 months in office aren’t the fault … [Read more...] about Newest Donald Trump club forms — in deeply Democratic Broward
President Donald Trump has said repeatedly that Russian interference didn't matter in the 2016 election, and he has suggested -- wrongly -- that the intelligence and law enforcement communities have said the same. His overriding fear seems to be that Russian interference and the "fake news" it promoted would undermine the legitimacy of his election win. Trump won't like this new study one bit. The study from researchers at Ohio State University finds that fake news likely played a significant role in depressing Hillary Clinton's support on Election Day 2016. The study, which has not been peer reviewed but which may be the first look at how fake news impacted voter choices, suggests that roughly 4 percent of former President Barack Obama's 2012 supporters were dissuaded from voting for Clinton in 2016 by belief in fake-news stories.Richard Gunther, Paul Beck and Erik Nisbet, the study's authors, inserted three popular fake-news stories from the 2016 campaign into a massive, … [Read more...] about Study: Fake news might have won Donald Trump the 2016 election
