This executive order creates the potential for significant monitoring and reporting burdens for contractors. Contractors may have to update and develop protocols to comply with the requirement to report labor law violations at both the federal and state level dating back three years. The order also may place additional pressure on contractors to settle existing employment-related claims. Because only final merits determinations will be reported to the government, anything short of a violation, including settlement, will not have to be reported. … [Read more...] about President Obama Signs Executive Order Addressing Contractors’ Employment and Labor Practices

Holiday Season Alternative Workweeks for Individual Retail Workers (AB 1173) California permits non-exempt employees to work “alternative workweek” schedules which means they can work up to four 10-hour shifts in a workweek without being entitled to overtime pay. This provision does not apply to employees covered by union collective bargaining agreements. The provision also does not apply to arbitration agreements that were already in place, unless an employer reserves the ability to modify the parties’ arbitration agreement. … [Read more...] about Agencies Publish Strict New Reporting Guidelines for Government Contractors
At the same time, Vietnam has focused on the investment and business environment by reducing hurdles to investment, hurdles to business operations, and lowering taxes improving taxes administration, improving border and custom clearance procedure and so on, if we look and see for example in Vietnam’s progressive improvement in doing businesses rating at the WB. Now if you look at the same rating that Vietnam still has room to improve, both in terms of the overall rating but also in certain aspects more than the others for example paying taxes. Despite the progress, Vietnam is still not performing at the level it could perform, for example insolvency procedures, meaning how quickly you can liquidate firms that are no longer profitable and free up the resources like capital, labour that are locked in these firms. It is important that this performance continues and I think the government has made it a clear priority to cut red tape, to streamline procedures, to get rid of those … [Read more...] about FDI – a successful part in Vietnam’s economic development: WB economist
