Vietnamese airlines may have to give up their intentions of purchasing hundreds of Boeing-made aircraft due to the controversy surrounding two recent crashes which killed hundreds of people. Airlines typically sell about 70 percent of their tickets via third parties, such as travel agents and websites. But in recent years, with more emphasis on selling extras on top of bookings, simply presenting fares and flight times in text wasn’t enough, an industry association said. Instead, a more engaging visual approach to marketing was needed: airlines wanted potential passengers to be able to view their planes, seats and even meals as though they were browsing a shopping site. Dr. Jill Biden, wife of U.S. Vice President Joe Biden, arrived in Hanoi on Sunday and took part in many social activities, as part of her visit to Vietnam to highlight women’s empowerment. The U.S. Second Lady’s visit is the second stop on her four-country business trip to Asia, which lasts from July 16 to 23, to engage government and civil society partners in issues related to economic empowerment and educational opportunities for women and girls, the White House said in a press release on Saturday. The four countries include South Korea, Japan, Laos, and Vietnam. After arriving in Hanoi at 11:20 am yesterday, Dr. Biden attended an event, “Helmets for Kids,” which highlighted the public-private partnership between the U.S. Embassy and the Asia Injury Prevention Foundation.
