US News Law Firm Rankings: Coming in 2010

US News & World Report announced today that readers can look forward to a law firm rankings feature in the fall of 2010.“We can feel law-firm marketing directors getting a little twitchy already,” the Wall Street Journal Law Blog writes.There will in fact be two sets of rankings, according to a press release (PDF provided by Wall Street Journal Law Blog): the best law firms, and the best law firms to work for. The rankings will evaluate more than 3,000 U.S. law firms using “a wide range of objective data as well as individual assessments from more than 40,000 private practice lawyers, 20,000 clients, and thousands of law firm employees.” The survey will be conducted this fall, the release says.This fall, the US News site will host Best Lawyers’ search engine, which contains profiles of more than 50,000 U.S. lawyers. Home Daily News 15 lawyers have left this law firm, whose… Law Firms By Debra Cassens Weiss Posted April 11, 2019, 7:30 am CDT Fifteen real estate lawyers have left Kasowitz Benson Torres to join the New York office of Vinson & Elkins. The group includes three partners and is one of the largest lateral group departures from Kasowitz Benson, the New York Law Journal reports. The firm has been shrinking over the last five years, with a head count that dropped from 372 to 258, the publication says. Bloomberg News also has coverage of the move; a press release is here. Name partner Marc Kasowitz had served as lead lawyer for President Donald Trump in the probe of Russian election interference before a shakeup of the legal team in July 2017. Lat week, Vault.com released its 15th annual Law 100: a ranking of the most prestigious law firms in the country in the eyes of the ultimate insiders—current law firm associates themselves. Law Firms’ Diversity Progress Stalls in Recession

Law firms had been making steady, if slow, progress in diversifying their ranks.  Recent data collected by Vault and the Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA), however, suggests that some of the profession’s advances have come to a virtual standstill.This spring, as part of the annual Law Firm Diversity Survey, more than 260 law firms, including many of the largest and most prestigious law firms in the country, completed a detailed questionnaire on their diversity initiatives, programs and demographics. The results have been released in the Law Firm Diversity Database.The data reveals how the economic crisis has affected law firm hiring, promotion and retention as a whole, and particularly highlights its impact on attorneys of color. Law Firms Try YouTube: ‘Hostage Videos’

Law firms have discovered YouTube, and reportedly see the social networking site as a potential summer associate recruiting tool.Their goal: to appear young and hip, in order to appeal to those who are.
