Chinese State Media Weighs In on Libya: ‘The West Should Feel Guilty’

· April 9, 2019 ·

China’s state-run Global Times propaganda arm published an opinion piece condemning “the West” for the current instability in Libya on Tuesday, arguing that “the West couldn’t care less” about Tripoli and that Libya is “one of the biggest failures” of the Arab Spring. Tripoli is currently undergoing an invasion by the Libyan National Army (LNA), an unofficial militia under the control of warlord Khalifa Haftar. Haftar is believed to control most of the country, but not the capital, currently under the rule of the internationally recognized Government of National Accord (GNA). Haftar, who claims to be a secularist attempting to establish himself against the many Islamist elements vying for power in the country, ordered an airstrike on Libya’s only airport on Monday in addition to the ground invasion, which the United States, United Nations, and many in the international community have condemned.Haftar enjoys the support of Russia, … [Read more...] about Chinese State Media Weighs In on Libya: ‘The West Should Feel Guilty’

Soon, Eve Ensler's episodic play had graduated from off-off Broadway to Madison Square Garden to college stages the world over. "It is not enough to put this play on once, and then forget about it. It's time to change our culture." The play, which debuts at Stanford University on Thursday, features dozens of true stories about mental illness. It gives voice to real people whose lives have been touched by mental-health disorders, the creators say. In the United States, 1 in 5 adults lives with mental illness. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, the majority are mildly or moderately affected … [Read more...] about Featuring dozens of true stories, play seeks to smash the stigma surrounding mental illness

· October 23, 2017 ·

General John Kelly got it wrong. And how. While threatening to drench a White House lectern with tears borrowed from a large reptile or Hollywood prop shop, Kelly recited what was likely a prepared takedown aimed at Democratic Representative Frederica Wilson. He said: A congresswoman stood up, and in a long tradition of empty barrels making the most noise, stood up there in all of that and talked about how she was instrumental in getting the funding for that [FBI] building, and how she took care of her constituents because she got the money, and she just called up President Obama, and on that phone call, he gave the money, the $20 million, to build the building, and she sat down.Except Kelly’s version of events isn’t remotely close to the truth. The Orlando Sun Sentinel posted video footage of Wilson’s 2015 remarks about the FBI building in question. In that video, Wilson does take credit for moving the legislation which named the building forward. But that’s a … [Read more...] about Rep. Frederica Wilson Might Have a Defamation Case Against John Kelly
