Novak Djokovic repeated his hardline refusal to get a Covid-19 vaccination Saturday as he resigned himself to sitting out the season’s last Grand Slam at the US Open. Djokovic was deported from Melbourne in January over his single-minded but controversial stance, forcing him to abandon an assault on a 10th Australian Open title. With no sign of the US authorities relaxing their rule requiring all visitors to be vaccinated, the 35-year-old Djokovic admitted Saturday that Wimbledon, which starts Monday, will be his last Slam of 2022. Wimbledon 2022: Novak Djokovic to Bring Curtain up on All England Championships When asked if he had completely closed his mind to getting vaccinated, he was unequivocal. “Yes,” he said. Djokovic was US Open champion in 2011, 2015 and 2018. He has 20 Slams to his name, two fewer than old rival Rafael Nadal. Last year, defeat in the New York final to Daniil Medvedev robbed him of the opportunity to become the first man since 1969 to clinch a … [Read more...] about Wimbledon 2022: Novak Djokovic Repeats No Vaccination Stance as US Open Slips Away

Korean COVID Vaccine Posed for Approval
June 28, 2022 10:20 Korea's first homegrown COVID-19 vaccine is going through the final stage of approval. The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety on Monday said a review committee has preliminarily approved SKYCovione (or GBP510) by SK Bioscience, and a final review session this week is expected to give it the green light. GBP510 was developed by SK Bioscience and the University of Washington's Institute for Protein Design. Like the Novavax vaccine, it is a recombinant-protein vaccine based on the same technology used to make flu or Type B hepatitis vaccines. It differs from both mRNA vaccines like Pfizer and Moderna or viral-vector vaccines like AstraZeneca and is given twice at an interval of four weeks. It can be kept in normal cold storage of 2-8 degrees Celsius. "Fourteen days after two doses, those who got GBP510 were found to have 2.93 times more neutralizing antibodies than those in the control group who were given AstraZeneca," the review committee said. … [Read more...] about Korean COVID Vaccine Posed for Approval

Coronavirus Reinfection is Very Much a Possibility. But is This a Cause of Worry?
The patient walked into the Washoe County community testing station in the US state of Nevada on April 18 with a sore throat, dry cough and a headache, but no reason to worry. He was only 25, had no prior medical conditions, and although the PCR nasal-swab test for Covid-19 he took came back positive, he was soon feeling well again. Thirty-five days later, he was rushed to the emergency room, short of breath and with a raging fever, and placed on oxygen support. He had become the first confirmed US case of Covid-19 reinfection. Up to now, there have been only a handful of similar cases worldwide, and experts say it is too early to draw sweeping conclusions from such a small headcount. Dairy farmers in Andhra Pradesh cautioned against brucellosis among livestock
District Collector P.S. Girisha on Monday said dairy farmers should be encouraged to get their livestock vaccinated against brucellosis. The Collector was launching the “Brucellosis Vaccine “ poster as part of the National Livestock Disease Vaccination Programme undertaken by the Department of Animal Husbandry. Mr. Girisha said that the brucellosis vaccination programme was being implemented across the country. Dairy farmers should be cautioned by the officials and field staff concerned about the dangerous effects of the disease on their livestock. “Vaccines are needed to prevent brucellosis. These vaccines should only be given to calves over four months and under eight months of age. Veterinarians would go to the owners of the livestock and vaccinate the animals free of cost. Once vaccinated, cattle do not develop brucellosis for the rest of their lives. The first phase of vaccination was completed last March and the programme would be conducted in three phases this year,” he … [Read more...] about Dairy farmers in Andhra Pradesh cautioned against brucellosis among livestock
Mom hosting sleepover despite daughter’s chickenpox branded “unforgivable”
A furious mom-of-four is considering severing ties with a set of fellow parents after they failed to disclose that their daughter had chickenpox in a situation that left her clinically vulnerable child dangerously exposed to the virus. Vaccines have played a significant role in changing the impact of chickenpox in the U.S. Data from the CDC shows prior to the introduction of the U.S. Vaccination Program in 1996, chickenpox led to more than 10,000 hospitalizations and 100 deaths every year, with over 4 million people contracting the virus . Since then, however, there has been a 90 percent decrease in deaths linked to chickenpox as well as 84 percent less hospitalizations and 92 percent fewer cases. It's a hugely positive shift, but some caution is still required when it comes to dealing with outbreaks of the virus, as one angry mother's story demonstrates. Writing in a post shared to Mumsnet under the handle JustLyra, the woman explained that the youngest of her kids … [Read more...] about Mom hosting sleepover despite daughter’s chickenpox branded “unforgivable”

He said there were still 50,000 people who had TB but only 5% of them had consented to support the scheme.
