Formula 1 is the pinnacle of motorsport worldwide and has gained massive following in recent years even in countries that don’t get to roll out the red carpet for racing; India being one of those countries and this author being one of those followers. This column is my attempt to connect with other new fans of the sport and share with them my journey of exploring this fast, furious, and yes, at times, frustrating, sport. “Four DRS zones in Melbourne. You just know someone will waste them all, appealing deliveries which clearly pitched outside the line of leg stump.” That took a second reading, didn’t it? The perfect summation of my go-to- confusion when I, a rookie fan, first heard of DRS in Formula One . Four DRS zones in Melbourne. You just know someone will waste them all, appealing deliveries which clearly pitched outside the line of leg stump. — Tom Arron (@norramot) April 5, 2022 In a cricket-obsessed country, you (and I) will be forgiven for thinking it stands … [Read more...] about Rookie on F1 Grid: DRS Chicken is Leaving a Bitter Taste Among Fans But It Stays on the Menu for Now

SK bioscience’s Covid-19 vaccine clears major hurdle
SK bioscience's GBP510, Korea's first homegrown Covid-19 vaccine [SK BIOSCIENCE] SK bioscience's Covid-19 vaccine candidate won approval recommendation from the Central Pharmaceutical Affairs Council (CPAC) under the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. That's the second hurdle SKYCovione cleared to get formal use approval, and the toughest. The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety reviews drug candidates in three phases, so only one remains. "Based on the overall data regarding safety and efficacy, the CPAC advised that we could approve the use of SKYCovione," the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety said Monday. The review was done by 12 outside experts and seven experts from the ministry. According to the data, SKYCovione had 2.93 times more neutralizing antibodies titers against the virus than AstraZeneca's vaccine. It also demonstrated higher immunogenicity. SKYCovione's Phase 3 clinical trials were comparative-style trials, which compare the immunogenicity of an … [Read more...] about SK bioscience’s Covid-19 vaccine clears major hurdle
Why is the monkeypox vaccine only being offered to men?
It can take a bit of time to work out which groups of people face the increased risk of contracting a virus. Unlike Coronavirus – which turned out to be especially virulent – the monkeypox virus is proving to be more selective and certainly nowhere near as infectious. When monkeypox emerged in the UK just a few weeks ago, there was barely any mention of which groups were at risk. Partly because we didn’t know – but even when it did become clearer that it was men who have sex with men who were particularly susceptible to contracting the virus, there was a fear that saying this publicly could foster stigma for a group all too familiar with bigotry. But now the UK Heath Security Agency has at last unveiled its strategy to try and mitigate the spread of the monkeypox virus – and its main intervention will be to offer a vaccine to gay and bisexual men. The agency officially acknowledges that rates of transmission are significantly higher in the male gay … [Read more...] about Why is the monkeypox vaccine only being offered to men?

Pope advises Catholic mothers to stop ironing their son’s shirts and push them to get married
The Pope has issued some tough love-style parenting advice for frustrated, but “overprotective” mothers with adult sons who simply won’t “leave the nest”. Pope Francis told Catholic mothers during a Mass service to mark the end of the 10 th World Meeting of Families that they should stop ironing their son’s shirts and encourage them to go and get married. He also urged adult men not to “take the easy road” and return to their mothers in “moments of difficulty”. The 85-year-old head of the Catholic Church, who has never been married and has no children, said: “We see so many young men who don’t have the courage to get married and mothers often say to me, ‘Do something, speak to my son, who is not getting married and is 37-years-old’. “But Signora, don’t iron his shirts, make the first move by sending him out, let him leave the nest.” Recommended ‘We’ve got a high quality manager here’ says Nick Pope after signing to Newcastle United … [Read more...] about Pope advises Catholic mothers to stop ironing their son’s shirts and push them to get married
As a TV presenter, I know the secret to Wimbledon
My childhood sporting memories are crystal clear. No, I don’t mean winning the bean bag race in primary school or scoring my first 50 on the cricket pitch. I’m talking about those captivating, inspiring and majestic moments that I watched on free-to-air television. The ones that were mesmerising and still live on in the deep recesses of my brain, etched there, like some kind of beautiful slow motion sporting montage. I remember World Cup USA ’94. Diana Ross missing a penalty in the opening ceremony, Baggio missing the deciding one in the final, Romario, Bebeto, et al – and the little sticker book I had to write all of the results in (and still have tucked away in a box in my spare room). I remember the Grand National in 1996. The excitement of heading home to watch it after I’d been to see Toy Story at the cinema for a friend’s birthday party. Mum and dad had recorded it on VHS so we could all watch it together – and the horse we’d picked won. I remember Atlanta … [Read more...] about As a TV presenter, I know the secret to Wimbledon
