"Today [Friday] will be one for the record books," the National Weather Service office serving Los Angeles wrote in its morning discussion. "Almost all if not all of the daily records will fall today. It is likely that several monthly records will fall and its possible that 1 or 2 all time records will be made." Specifically, the Weather Service said the all-time high temperatures of 113 in Burbank and 117 in Woodland Hills are in jeopardy. Most of the seven states that get water from the Colorado River have signed off on plans to keep the waterway from crashing amid a prolonged drought, climate change and increased demands. But California and Arizona have not, missing deadlines from the federal government. Arizona has some work to do but nothing major holding it back. Three people killed, others wounded in shooting at Southern California bowling alley
Michael Brice-Saddler, The Washington Post Published 8:56 am PST, Saturday, January 5, 2019 Three men were killed and four others injured in a shooting Friday night at a bowling alley in Southern California, according to local police. The Torrance, California, police department tweeted early Saturday morning that it was responding to reports of shots fired "with multiple victims down" and advised people to stay away from the area. The shooting took place at the Gable House Bowl, a bowling and gaming venue that stays open until 3 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, according to its website. Police have not specified what led to the shooting, which was reported just before midnight Friday, but witnesses told the AP that it was preceded by a fight between two large groups. Police said that three men died at the scene and four male victims were injured in the shooting.
