The petrol and diesel prices on Saturday, August 13, remained unchanged by the oil marketing companies (OMCs). The prices for the two major auto fuels have continued to be steady for over two months now, with Maharashtra being the only exception. The state government in Maharashtra had announced to reduce the value added tax (VAT) on the prices of petrol and diesel by Rs 5 and Rs 3 per litre, respectively, on July 15. The VAT cut is likely to put a burden of Rs. 6,000 crore on the Maharashtra government on an annual basis. Earlier, on May 21, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a reduction in the excise duty on petrol by Rs 8 per litre and on diesel by Rs 6 per litre. The fuel prices have remained stable since then. For the national capital on August 13, petrol and diesel prices remain the same at Rs 96.72 per litre and Rs 89.62 per litre, each. As per the latest notification issued by fuel retailers, the prices of petrol and diesel remained unchanged across the country on Friday, August 12. The cost of petrol in Delhi stands at Rs 96.72 per litre, while that of diesel is Rs 89.62 a litre. Meanwhile, the petrol price in Mumbai costs Rs 106.31 per litre, while diesel is sold at Rs 94.27 per litre. It may be noted that fuel prices dropped in Maharashtra recently as the state government announced a cut in value-added tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel by Rs 5 a litre and by Rs 3, respectively. The fuel rates have remained the same in the entire country since the Central Government announced a cut in excise duty. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharman, on May 21, announced that the central excise duty on petrol has been cut by Rs 8 per litre and the same on diesel has been dropped by Rs 6 per litre. The poliovirus has been detected in wastewater and sewage in New York, state health officials told New Yorkers on Friday. Just a few weeks after the first U.S. polio case was detected in over a decade, the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) and the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYCDOHMH) told city residents that polio was found in wastewater samples in New York City, meaning that there is likely a good amount of polio being circulated. "For every one case of paralytic polio identified, hundreds more may be undetected," State Health Commissioner Dr. Mary T. Bassett said in a press release. The findings come after the U.K. Health Security Agency (UKHSA) identified polio in sewage samples taken in London, the first alert of polio being raised in June. Delhi on Friday reported 10 deaths due to Covid-19, the highest in six months, and 2,136 cases with a positivity rate of 15.02 per cent, according to data shared by the health department here. This is the 10th consecutive day when the city logged more than 2,000 cases in a day. The national capital on February 13 reported 12 deaths due to the viral disease. The fresh cases on Friday came out of 14,225 Covid-19 tests, according to the latest health bulletin. With the fresh cases and fatalities, Delhi’s infection count increased to 19,80,402 and the death toll rose to 26,367. Delhi on Thursday reported 2,726 fresh Covid-19 cases, the highest in nearly six and a half months, and six fatalities due to the viral disease, while the positivity rate stood at 14.38 per cent. Hyderabad has recorded registrations of 4,313 units of residential properties in July 2022, which was lower by 20% month on month (MoM). Properties over ₹50 lakh and above witnessed fewer transactions in the last month contributing to the slowdown. The drop was caused by adverse sentiments towards major investment decisions in ‘Ashada Masam’ combined with heightened uncertainty over rising interest rates. Total value of properties transacted last month stood at ₹2,101 crore, also registering a decline of 26% MoM, said the latest real estate report from Knight Frank-India. Since the beginning of the year, the city has seen sales of 40,897 residential units with a total worth of ₹20,023 crore. The city’s residential market includes four districts — Hyderabad, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Rangareddy and Sangareddy, said the research agency.
