May 14, 2022 by www.thestar.com.my

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno is set for another turning point in its 76-year history by amending its constitution on Sunday (May 15) to allow party elections to be held six months after the 15th General Election. This will take place at a special Umno general meeting at the World Trade Centre’s Dewan Merdeka here, with some 2,000 party delegates expected to attend the event. Umno executive secretary Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan said the meeting will kick off at 2pm with a speech by party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. He said this will be followed by the tabling of a motion to amend the party's constitution by party vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin before the matter is left to be decided by the delegates, adding that there will be no debates. "Once after that, the party president will hoist the Umno flag and cut ‘pulut kuning’ with the other party leaders at Dewan Tun Razak in conjunction with Umno’s 76th anniversary,” he told Bernama here Saturday (May 14). … [Read more...] about Umno to amend party constitution on May 15 in special meet

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno can look forward to contesting in the general election as a united front after a proposal to amend the constitution to defer party polls was passed. The amendment, passed with a unanimous vote from the 2,586 delegates attending the extraordinary general meeting (EGM) at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) yesterday, “is proof that the party leadership is without camps but instead stands as one”, said delegates. They pointed to the proposed amendment, which was tabled by vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin and seconded by Prime Minister and fellow Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob. Khaled said now that the constitution had been amended, Umno could focus on winning the general election. “This election is important... we want to ensure a handsome win for Umno and Barisan Nasional, so everyone must be on board and work towards achieving this goal,” he said. Noh Omar: Up to Umno, PAS to decide on Muafakat Nasional co-operation

May 24, 2022 by www.thestar.com.my

KUALA LUMPUR: The Selangor Umno will leave the decision on Muafakat Nasional (MN) cooperation to the top party leadership and also PAS, says Tan Sri Noh Omar on Tuesday (May 24). The Selangor Umno Liaison Committee chairman said it was seen as the best action to take as both sides have their respective leadership committees. "If possible, Selangor Umno wants MN to be as it was before, that is much welcomed, nevertheless, we leave it to the leadership of both parties to make their decision. "Every party has its committee, so if the president says it (MN co-operation) is barely alive, it means it is still alive, but whether it will continue to live or otherwise, we leave to the leadership,” he told reporters at the launch of the Co-operative Commission of Malaysia Strategic Plan 2021-2025 (PS SKM 2021-2025) held in conjunction with the National Co-operative Day Celebration pre-launch and Co-operative Movement Friendly Gathering at Dewan Perdana Felda today. KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob, who quit Parti Warisan last year to go independent, is likely to join Barisan Nasional. The Sindumin assemblyman, however, remained coy when asked by reporters if his attendance at Sabah Barisan’s Hari Raya gathering here on Thursday (May 19) signalled his intention to join the coalition. "I have previously stated that I have joined Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and pledged support for our Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob," he said when met at the Magellan Sutera Harbour Resort here. "I have made my decision (on which party to join) so it is just a matter of announcing it," he added. When pressed if he had submitted an application form to Sabah Barisan, Dr Yusof, who was clad in a blue baju Melayu, said "I have filled up a form". "On joining the party, I will leave it to Sabah Barisan chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin to announce it," he added. When asked if he had received the form from Yusof, Bung said he will make an … [Read more...] about All signs point to ex-Warisan rep joining Sabah BN

KOTA KINABALU: Former Umno assemblyman for Bugaya, Datuk Ramlee Marahaban, will not reject calls to re-contest in the upcoming election if needed. He said although he had no intention of contesting again, he would not decline if the people want him back, and he is given the trust and duty to get active in politics once more. "I am taking things slow at the moment, choosing to sit back and relax and to give way to new leaders and the current leadership to serve the people for now because I do not want to be thrown with negative perceptions if I do more," Ramlee said in a statement. The former Sabah assistant minister of Finance said he would also continue to work with the election machinery no matter what as his heart was still with Umno. Asked about the vacant seat in Bugaya following the death of its assemblywoman Manis Muka Mohd Darah in November 2020, he said it was better that a by-election was held as soon as possible. He said the seat had been vacant for almost two … [Read more...] about Former Bugaya assemblyman will contest in GE15 if the people want him to
