A POLLEN bomb is about to cause misery for millions of hay fever sufferers across the UK. Warm weather has seen Brits basking in glorious 25C temperatures but it is also causing a huge surge in pollen levels. We reveal all... What is a pollen bomb? PARTS of Britain are in for a warm and wet week as torrential downpours mix with muggy temperatures — but the weekend will give a glimmer of hope. The south of England is set to bear the brunt of the bad weather with a yellow rain-warning out today. Up to an inch of rain per hour is expected to hit the east, south east and south western areas — while the Met Office is warning of flooding and lightning strikes. Northern Ireland and Western Scotland will be spared from the deluge as they bask in sunny skies and the mercury across the nation stays around the mid 20s. The washout is expected to continue for many in the south this week, with more northern and western areas forecast to stay drier. But weather watchers here can hold out hope for an improvement by the weekend as stormy skies clear up on Saturday and Sunday. Nicola Maxy from the Met Office said: "The chance of thunderstorms will diminish on Friday and into the weekend. "It will be slightly cooler in the south, with … [Read more...] about UK weather warning for inch of rain in one hour today despite 25C heat – but there’s good news for next weekend
A YELLOW weather warning has been issued as Hurricane Helene prepares to barrel into the UK next week — bringing driving rain and gales of up to 80mph. The storm is currently sitting in the mid-Atlantic on the heels of the catastrophic Hurricane Florence that is battering the southeast of the United States. But Helene began its course towards Britain yesterday — pivoting north east and making a beeline for Blighty. Dramatic forecast images from the US National Hurricane Centre (NHC) shows how Helene will sweep in to the south west of the British Isles from Monday night. The Hurricane was yesterday located about 1,285 miles southwest of the Azores in the Atlantic with maximum sustained winds of 85 miles per hour. It is expected to lose power slightly by the time it reaches Britain — but it will still be classed as a powerful Tropical Storm. This means potentially destructive winds along with storm surges and heavy rain pounding our shores at the beginning of next … [Read more...] about Met Office issues Hurricane Helene weather warning as 80mph gales set to batter Britain
