TEMPERATURES will plummet by 10C this week as thunder, rain and even hail sweeps across the country ahead of the Bank Holiday. The mercury is expected to reach a muggy 28C on Wednesday before more brisk autumn temperatures are brought in by the weekend. The blustery conditions come after a hot summer that brought in the driest June on record. Meteorologist Emma Smith said Tuesday's cloudy conditions were expected to continue into Wednesday. She said: "It will be largely cloudy across the country, with outbreaks of patchy rain where the clouds are thickest. "Wednesday will be the warmest day of the week with temperatures reaching 28 or 29C." But by Thursday, a cold front will push across Devon and Cornwall north - bringing with it blustery showers. The north and west of Northern Ireland is expected to be the worst hit with the Met Office issuing an amber warning with much of the rest of the country blanketed by a yellow warning.
