Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) has sunk 30 points behind Donald Trump-endorsed Harriet Hageman in the Wyoming GOP primary, a Club for Growth poll found Thursday. Hageman garnered 56 percent support, while Cheney only earned 26 percent, a 30 percent difference. The poll was conducted with 400 likely Republican primary voters in Wyoming from May 24-25. The margin of error is +4.9 percent. A January straw poll revealed Hageman held a commanding lead over Cheney. The poll, conducted by the Wyoming Republican State Central Committee via secret ballot, showed Hageman won 59 votes and Cheney six, a 53-point victory by Hageman. The new polling data comes after Donald Trump announced he would hold a rally for Hageman on Saturday at 4 p.m. in Casper, Wyoming. Trump and Hageman will be joined at the rally by Reps. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is coming under assault from some prominent members of his own party, who are using multiple advertisements among their efforts to prevent him from racking up delegates and clinching the nomination over GOP rivals Ted Cruz and John Kasich. More than 120 members of the GOP foreign policy establishment, including former advisers to President George W. Bush, have signed an open letter declaring the billionaire unfit for the highest office of the United States. Shortly after protesters clashed with Donald Trump supporters Thursday night in San Jose, California, conservatives began blaming liberals for rioting against a presidential candidate. Liberals pointed a finger at the Republican presumptive nominee for his incendiary rhetoric and the violence of his own supporters. It's a cycle that seems likely to continue until November's election. Jim Geraghty, conservative blogger and National Review contributor, recently compared the demonstrators' rhetoric and signs at Trump rallies to those seen at Occupy Wall Street, with the Black Lives Matter movement and at the World Trade Organization protests that rocked Seattle in 1999.
