Turkey’s Information and Communication Technologies Authority [BTK], an agency overseeing mass media, confronted Google about the presence of a map detailing the borders of “Kurdistan” including Turkish territory, reports revealed on Tuesday. “Kurdistan” is a term broadly used for the indigenous territory of ethnic Kurds, believed to number between 25 and 35 million people. It includes land belonging to Turkey, Syria, Iraq, and Iran. All four governments vehemently reject Kurdish sovereignty. Turkey, in particular, has launched a crackdown on Kurdish separatist groups and legal Kurd-friendly political parties, deeming anyone expressing solidarity with the Kurdish people a “terrorist.”The Turkish government now appears to have refocused its efforts on pressuring international corporations to accept its worldview, following a template the communist government of China has successfully used to impose its sovereignty claims on Taiwan, Tibet, … [Read more...] about Turkey Demands Google Remove User-Created ‘Kurdistan’ Map from Earth App

World Israel Syria Golan Heights Jerusalem Donald Trump Palestine Six Day War Bashar al-Assad Iran Israel has been pressuring the U.S. to recognize its self-proclaimed ownership of the Golan Heights, a southwestern Syrian territory seized by Israel during a 1967 conflict and later annexed without international recognition. Israeli Intelligence Minister Israel Katz made the revelation in an interview with Reuters on Wednesday, saying such a follow-up to Washington's recognition of the disputed city of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel would likely come within the upcoming months. Katz said accepting Israeli control of the Golan Heights would target not only longtime foe Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, but also an even more powerful enemy: Iran. Israel has targeted Iranian and pro-Iran positions in Syria for years and Katz said President Donald Trump's recent decision to move the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and exit from the 2015 nuclear agreement meant it was … [Read more...] about U.S. Gave Jerusalem to Israel, Will Syria’s Golan Heights Be Next?

World Syria Bashar al-Assad Russia Vladimir Putin Sochi Iran ISIS Syrian President Bashar al-Assad met Thursday with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Black Sea city of Sochi, expressing gratitude for Moscow's help in a prolonged civil war that has increasingly gone in the government's favor. The trip marks Assad's second known exit from Syria since the nation was rocked by a 2011 uprising sponsored by the West, Turkey and Gulf Arab states.
