Trump supporter says Ivanka clone spoke at Jan. 6 hearing, not the real her

June 24, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

A video of The Daily Show's Jordan Klepper speaking to a Donald Trump supporter who claimed a clone of Ivanka Trump was speaking in a clip played during the January 6 Committee hearing has gone viral. The Daily Show posted the video of Jordan Klepper speaking to supporters of the former president during one of its stops in Mississippi as part of his American Freedom Tour. The video has been viewed over 500,000 times and showed Klepper speaking to attendees at the event about the January 6, 2021 insurrection as well as the ongoing January 6 Committee hearings. Ivanka Trump, Trump's daughter and former White House adviser, gave video testimony at the January 6 Committee hearing on June 9 and said she accepted what Attorney General William Barr had said, that there was no widespread fraud in the 2020 election. In Klepper's Daily Show clip, multiple Donald Trump supporters said they had not been watching the committee hearings but also argued that the election was … [Read more...] about Trump supporter says Ivanka clone spoke at Jan. 6 hearing, not the real her

Have the Jan.6 Hearings Hurt Donald Trump?: Analysis

June 24, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

After the committee investigating the January 6, 2021 Capitol riots has held five hearings, there is still a question as to just how much damage the hearings will actually do to former President Donald Trump . The House Select Committee, which has spent a year investigating the events which led up to the Capitol riot, had been building up to proceedings in the weeks and months before the first live televised presentation, promising to deliver evidence that some hoped would force the Department of Justice to act and charge the former president. However, there is no guarantee that Attorney General Merrick Garland will take the unprecedented step and charge the former president with a crime over his alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 election results or incitement of his supporters to storm the Capitol as a last-ditch attempt to hold onto power. Even if no charges are brought against Trump or any of his allies, there is still hope from the panel that their findings … [Read more...] about Have the Jan.6 Hearings Hurt Donald Trump?: Analysis

Trump-backed state lawmaker wants Jan. 6 “Remembrance Day”

June 22, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

A Republican lawmaker from Michigan has proposed a resolution that would declare January 6 as "Remembrance Day" while suggesting the violence at the Capitol that day was merely committed by a "few rogue and malicious agitators." State Representative Steve Carra, who had previously been endorsed by former President Donald Trump , submitted the proposal in a resolution riddled with conspiracy theories and outlandish claims. As well as proposing making the day of the insurrection a day of remembrance in Michigan, Carra also suggested that COVID-19 was a "man-made" virus and claimed that racism was on "life support" until it was "revived by the Marxist Black Lives Matter movement" during the protests and disorder which broke out in the wake of the murder of George Floyd in May 2020. Discussing January 6, Carra said it should be recognized as Remembrance Day due to the "heinous and tyrannical actions levied on society by an unhinged and politically motivated ruling elite." "We … [Read more...] about Trump-backed state lawmaker wants Jan. 6 “Remembrance Day”

Republicans think DeSantis more likely than Trump to beat Biden: Poll

June 22, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis leads the GOP field and is a better option than former President Donald Trump to face off against President Joe Biden in a hypothetical 2024 general election matchup, according to a newly released poll from the University of New Hampshire (UNH) Survey Center. In the poll, 318 likely Republican primary voters in the state showed that DeSantis and Trump are in a statistical dead heat for the 2024 nomination. However, the poll found that DeSantis does better head-to-head against Biden than Trump does. Biden beat Trump by 8 percentage points in 2020, with the poll showing Biden with a nearly identical lead in the case of a 2024 rematch. But the poll showed DeSantis edging Biden by a 47 to 46 percent margin, with 97 percent of Trump voters supporting DeSantis in that hypothetical election. DeSantis' popularity among Republicans , according to previous UNH polls conducted in October and July, has soared. Since October, DeSantis has seen his … [Read more...] about Republicans think DeSantis more likely than Trump to beat Biden: Poll

Trump attacks McConnell for advancing gun measures he previously supported

June 22, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

Donald Trump took aim Wednesday at Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell for helping to advance a bipartisan gun safety bill, even though the legislation includes measures the former president has backed in the past. McConnell, a Kentucky Republican, was one of 14 GOP senators who voted Tuesday night to open debate on the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. In a post on his Truth Social page , Trump sounded alarm bells on the proposed legislation while citing McConnell and another Republican senator who helped lead the bipartisan talks behind the bill . "The deal on 'Gun Control' currently being structured and pushed in the Senate by Radical Left Democrats , with the help of Mitch McConnell, RINO Senator John Cornyn of Texas, and others, will go down in history as the first step in the movement to TAKE YOUR GUNS AWAY. Republicans , be careful what you wish for!!!" Trump wrote. The term "RINO" stands for Republican in Name Only. The Bipartisan Safer Communities … [Read more...] about Trump attacks McConnell for advancing gun measures he previously supported

Trump’s proxy war losses may signal beginning of GOP “turning the page”

June 23, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

Even though former President Donald Trump has lost proxy battles with other key Republicans , he remains the most sought-after endorsement in the GOP. But Trump's time as kingmaker could be coming to an end now that his former allies have had a taste of independence. More than 100 of Trump's endorsed candidates have won their primaries, and support from the former president still seems to go a long way with voters. Trump has reason to brag about his endorsement record, but his former allies are starting to make their own set of endorsements, and in several instances, they've proven powerful enough to hold their own. The former president's mixed results in the ongoing primary elections, coupled with the unfavorable public hearings from the House committee investigating January 6, 2021, mean voters "are likely to see more people re-discover their courage," GOP strategist Alex Patton told Newsweek . "Republicans aren't going to wake up one day and declare they have found Jesus … [Read more...] about Trump’s proxy war losses may signal beginning of GOP “turning the page”

Steve Bannon says Fox News has “turned on Trump,” favors DeSantis

June 23, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

Rupert Murdoch's media empire has "turned on" former president Donald Trump , according to Trump's longtime adviser Steve Bannon . Bannon made the comments in a Gettr post responding to a Vanity Fair article that pointed out how columnists at several of the media tycoon's U.S. newspapers have been urging readers to "dump Trump" and back Republicans with a better chance of regaining the White House in 2024. "The game's up for the Donald… It's time Republicans put their faith in the Ronald," Piers Morgan wrote in a recent column for the New York Post, referring to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. The piece also outlined how Fox News has been giving DeSantis a national spotlight ahead of a possible 2024 presidential run. "The Murdochs —-Australians via England—not American, have never sacrificed anything for this Country—their entire media Empire has turned on Trump — Fox News, Wall Street Journal , New York Post , Times of London , The Sun etc etc etc——all … [Read more...] about Steve Bannon says Fox News has “turned on Trump,” favors DeSantis

Donald Trump’s new border wall contract will cost more than $30 million per mile

May 20, 2020 by www.newsweek.com

The Trump administration has reportedly signed its biggest border wall contract yet, awarding a North Dakota construction firm a nearly $1.3 billion deal to put up fencing in Arizona. Fisher Sand and Gravel, the construction firm awarded the contract, is expected to see 42 miles of black-painted fencing erected across the mountainous terrain of southern Arizona, according to The Washington Post. Given the deal's $1.28 billion price tag, that works out to a cost of more than $30 million per mile. Previously, Fisher Sand and Gravel had been passed over for other border wall construction projects. However, the North Dakota firm reportedly gained President Donald Trump's support in White House meetings after Tommy Fisher, the company's CEO, praised the president on cable news and made donations to Trump's GOP allies. The company's only other major border contract, a $400 million deal to build 31 miles of border wall across the Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge southwest of … [Read more...] about Donald Trump’s new border wall contract will cost more than $30 million per mile

Kirstjen Nielsen blames both sides for deadly Charlottesville violence, claims Russia didn’t try to help Trump

July 19, 2018 by www.newsweek.com

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said Thursday that Russian interference did not play a role in President Donald Trump's 2016 election win. "I haven't seen any evidence that the attempts to interfere in our election on infrastructure was to favor one political party," she told a crowd of mostly Republicans at the Aspen Security Forum in Colorado. "I think what we've seen on the foreign influence side is they were attempting to intervene and cause chaos on both sides." The comment came just three days after Russian president Vladimir Putin confirmed that he wanted Trump to win the 2016 presidential election over his Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton. During a joint press conference with Trump in Helsinki, a reporter asked if Putin supported Trump during the election, "yes I did," responded Putin. "Yes I did, because he talked about bringing the U.S.-Russia relationship back to normal." In May 2018, the Senate Intelligence Committee backed previous … [Read more...] about Kirstjen Nielsen blames both sides for deadly Charlottesville violence, claims Russia didn’t try to help Trump

Steve Bannon says Trump was right to say there was “blame on both sides” for the Charlottesville violence last year

August 3, 2018 by www.newsweek.com

As the one-year anniversary of the deadly white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, approaches, President Donald Trump's former White House political strategist Steve Bannon said he still supports Trump's past comments that there were "very fine people on both sides." "I still support what he said," Bannon told The Hill during an exclusive interview this week, claiming his former boss was comparing those who no longer wanted a statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee in the city to those who did. The Unite the Right rally August 11-12, 2017, hosted by hundreds of neo-Nazis, alt-right groups and Klu Klux Klan members, resulted in three deaths. One occurred after 21-year-old James Alex Fields Jr. was charged with driving his car into a group of counterprotesters, injuring dozens more. Following the incident, the president failed to strongly condemn the white nationalists, claiming there was "blame on both sides" for the events that lead to the multiple deaths and … [Read more...] about Steve Bannon says Trump was right to say there was “blame on both sides” for the Charlottesville violence last year
