World Donald Trump International Affairs Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has declared that President Donald Trump is creating a new world order underpinned by U.S. leadership and democracy, despite suggestions to the contrary from his critics. Delivering a foreign policy speech to diplomats in Brussels, Belgium, Pompeo blamed Iran and China for instability in the world, and said the U.S. is committed to peace and prosperity (via Reuters). “In the finest traditions of our great democracy, we are rallying the noble nations to build a new liberal order that prevents war and achieves greater prosperity,” Pompeo said. “Under President Trump, we are not abandoning international leadership or our friends in the international system,” he added. World International Affairs Mexico’s president-elect Andrés Manuel López Obrador has said that President Donald Trump voiced support for a multi-billion dollar economic development plan to curb undocumented immigration. López Obrador, who will take office on December 1, and Trump had a phone conversation on Wednesday after the U.S., Canada and Mexico came to terms on a new trade agreement this week to replace NAFTA. In addition to the trade deal, the Mexican leader said that they had discussed “a next step” to increase investment between Canada, the U.S. and Mexico that would address the “the migration phenomenon,” Reuters reported. “He looks favorably on it,” López Obrador, a leftist politician who formerly served as the mayor of Mexico City, told reporters.
