Trump: Mollie Tibbitts’ Death Points to Need for Tough Immigration Stance

· August 23, 2018 ·

The killing of Iowa college student Mollie Tibbitts points to the need for a tough stance on immigration and a border wall, President Donald Trump said in an interview that aired Thursday. "I watched the father, he kept saying — I sort of doubted it was going to happen — she is coming back," Trump told Fox News' "Fox and Friends" co-host Ainsley Earhardt. "I say that's called hope, and it's a beautiful thing in a way. But now there is no hope." Mexican immigrant Cristhian Bahena Rivera, 24, is facing charges of killing Tibbitts and hiding her body. His attorney maintained during a hearing Wednesday that he was in the United States legally. "She was killed by a horrible person that came in from Mexico, illegally here," Trump told Earhardt. "He was found by ICE, our great ICE, who is abused by the Democrats and the left and without them you might not be sitting here so comfortably right now. I just think it's so sad." Meanwhile, he said, construction has started on the border … [Read more...] about Trump: Mollie Tibbitts’ Death Points to Need for Tough Immigration Stance

Mattis Vows ‘Strong Defensive Stance’ on NKorea

· June 29, 2018 ·

U.S. Defense Secretary James Mattis pledged Friday to maintain and strengthen the US security alliance with Japan amid fears that talks with North Korea could water down Washington's longstanding security commitments in the region. Mattis said the United States and its regional allies will maintain a "strong collaborative defensive stance" on North Korea, and that Japan will remain a "cornerstone" of regional stability. In meetings with Japanese officials, Mattis sought to address Tokyo's worries that its security interests could be left behind in President Donald Trump's push to reach a denuclearization deal with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. "We're in the midst of very unprecedented negotiations right now with North Korea, but in this dynamic time, the longstanding alliance between Japan and the US stands firm," Mattis insisted next to his Japanese counterpart Itsunori Onodera. "There is absolute reassurance between the two of us that we stand firm," he pledged. Regional allies … [Read more...] about Mattis Vows ‘Strong Defensive Stance’ on NKorea

Sen. Casey’s ‘Pro-Life Democrat’ Stance Under Scrutiny

· July 2, 2018 ·

Pennsylvania Sen. Bob Casey's reelection bid this November has become more complicated with an upcoming vote likely on President Donald Trump's Supreme Court nomination, because it highlights his stance on abortion, Politico reported on Monday. Casting himself as a pro-choice Democrat in a heavily Catholic state, Casey has after a decade in the Senate become an increasingly reliable vote in support of abortion rights. Anti-abortion groups say he is no champion of their cause and view him as unlikely to support Trump's nominee, whose confirmation will be a proxy battle on the future of Roe v. Wade. Pro-lifers also point out that Casey voted against Neil Gorsuch's nomination to the Supreme Court Casey's Republican challenger Rep. Lou Barletta has emphasized the issue, proclaiming "I'm 100 percent pro-life. According to his voting record, he's voted only 20 percent for life in the 115th Congress." However, Casey leads Republican challenger Lou Barletta 47 percent to 32 percent in the … [Read more...] about Sen. Casey’s ‘Pro-Life Democrat’ Stance Under Scrutiny

Trump: ‘Unwavering’ Republican Support for My Border Stance

· January 9, 2019 ·

President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that support among Republican lawmakers was "unwavering" for the tough stance he has taken to try to secure funds for a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border. "The Democrats have lost support. There is tremendous Republican support, unwavering," he said, without providing details or evidence as he arrived at the U.S. Capitol to talk to Republican senators. Asked how long he was willing to keep the federal government shut as part of his effort to secure funds for a wall, Trump told reporters: "Whatever it takes." … [Read more...] about Trump: ‘Unwavering’ Republican Support for My Border Stance
