Fugitive wanted over 2015 disappearance of mum Lisa Brown in Spain arrested at Heathrow Airport

A FUGITIVE wanted over the disappearance of a British mum in Spain has been arrested at Heathrow Airport. Simon Corner, 35, - facing trial in Spain in connection with the disappearance Lisa Brown - was served a European Arrest Warrant and held by UK cops on Monday. Lisa’s family had offered a £100,000 reward for information on Corner’s whereabouts at a press conference in Algeciras, southern Spain, last month. Lisa, originally from Alexandria, Dumbartonshire, vanished aged 32 in November 2015 from her home in Guadiaro near Gibraltar and is presumed dead by her family and Spanish police. Her sister Helen said: “We are as happy as we can be. We expect extradition to run its course now. Hundreds of Migrants Reach Spain Over the Weekend, Austria Calls for Border Force to Deploy in North Africa

(AP) — Spain’s maritime rescue service says it has rescued 366 migrants attempting the dangerous crossing of the Mediterranean Sea this weekend. 12:40 p.m.The service says that its rescue craft has intercepted 73 migrants travelling in four small boats on Sunday, adding to the 293 migrants it pulled from nine vessels on Saturday. Tens of thousands of migrants attempt to reach Spain and other southern European countries each year by crossing the Mediterranean in smugglers’ boats. Most of the boats are unfit for open water, and thousands drown. The U.N. says 636 migrants have died crossing the Mediterranean so far this year. Fears Spain is becoming new gateway to Europe for migrants as 500 are rescued trying to cross the Med

SPAIN is being “overwhelmed” by migrants arriving on dilapidated boats from Africa, a UN refugee agency has warned. María Jesús Vega, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in the country, called on the government to take “urgent measures” yesterday. The agency warned Spanish rescue and humanitarian organisations are struggling to cope with the influx of people, particularly from Libya. Authorities rescued over 500 migrants this weekend from more than a dozen boats making the perilous Mediterranean crossing to Europe. Following plane and helicopter searches, Spanish boats rescued almost 300 migrants from nine boats on Saturday, authorities said. As of Sunday afternoon, a further 250 migrants were rescued from eight boats, three of which were in poor condition and later sank, they added. Spain’s center-left Socialist Party (PSOE) garnered enough support to push through a motion of no-confidence, a move that is expected to remove from power Friday the man who has led the country since 2011. The day before the vote, Rajoy vanished from parliament, leaving pundits to speculate whether he would resign before parliament can vote to remove him. What Rajoy does next could change the political landscape of the country in the near future. Spain’s prime minister has effectively quit because of a corruption scandal

REUTERS/Susana Vera Mariano Rajoy has admitted defeat before the Spanish parliament voted to oust him from office. The vote of no confidence came after a court convicted his former aides of running a slush fund for his party's campaign. Rajoy said it was an "honour" to serve. Rajoy said before the Spanish parliament before a vote of no confidence on Friday: "It has been an honour to be the president of the Government of Spain, it has been an honour to leave Spain better than what I found. I wish my substitute could say the same when he comes. I wish it for the good of Spain. "I think I have fulfilled the mandate of the seat, to serve the life of the people.
