James Comey to Testify in Private, Withdraws Challenge

· December 2, 2018 ·

Former FBI Director James Comey on Sunday withdrew his bid to quash a congressional subpoena compelling him to testify in secret about the bureau's decisions on investigations ahead of the 2016 presidential election, Reuters reported. Comey agreed to sit down for a closed-door deposition Friday.  Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee pledged to provide Comey with a full transcript within 24 hours of his testimony, and said he would be allowed to "make any or all of that transcript public," Comey's lawyer David Kelley told the news agency. In addition, a representative from the FBI will attend to help advise Comey on what matters related to the bureau he may divulge. The agreement came a day before lawyers were to appear at a court hearing. Comey tweeted he was "grateful for a fair hearing" from the judge. Last week, Comey filed a motion Washington, D.C., federal court to discard the subpoena from Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va. Comey's request … [Read more...] about James Comey to Testify in Private, Withdraws Challenge

Trump Slams ‘Leakin’ James Comey on Twitter

· December 9, 2018 ·

President Donald Trump blasted former FBI Director James Comey on Twitter Sunday, accusing him of lying to House lawmakers about the investigation into Russian interference. "Leakin’ James Comey must have set a record for who lied the most to Congress in one day. His Friday testimony was so untruthful!" Trump tweeted. "This whole deal is a Rigged Fraud headed up by dishonest people who would do anything so that I could not become President. They are now exposed!" he continued. "On 245 occasions, former FBI Director James Comey told House investigators he didn’t know, didn’t recall, or couldn’t remember things when asked. Opened investigations on 4 Americans (not 2) - didn’t know who signed off and didn’t know Christopher Steele. All lies!" Comey told lawmakers during hours of closed-door questioning that the FBI's counterintelligence investigation into potential ties between the Trump campaign and Russia initially focused on four Americans and … [Read more...] about Trump Slams ‘Leakin’ James Comey on Twitter

Comey, House Set for Showdown over Michael Flynn

· April 30, 2018 ·

House Republicans and former FBI Director James Comey cannot agree on what he said to Congress about former national security adviser Michael Flynn until the transcript of his testimony is released, The Washington Examiner reports. The GOP claims that Comey told Congress in testimony that FBI investigators who interviewed Flynn did not believe he had intentionally lied or misled them in their probe on January 24, 2017. However, Flynn pled guilty to lying to the FBI in November. Although the full transcript has not been released, unnamed sources told the Examiner what Comey allegedly said. But recently, while promoting his new book, "A Higher Loyalty," Comey has begun denying that he told Congress that FBI investigators didn’t think Flynn lied. "In the Washington Examiner, they report that, according to sources familiar with meetings that you had, that you told lawmakers when you were still director of the FBI that FBI agents who interviewed Flynn did not believe that Flynn … [Read more...] about Comey, House Set for Showdown over Michael Flynn
