Concern Grows As Another US Tourist Dies In Dominican Republic

· June 11, 2019 ·

Concern has grown over the mysterious deaths of American tourists at hotels in the Dominican Republic after a sixth fatality was announced, the New York Post reported. What makes the string of deaths particularly disturbing is that many appear to follow a similar pattern in that they involve healthy, middle-aged adults who took a drink from their hotel room minibar before suddenly becoming gravely sick. Although the cause of death of the latest fatality, 67-year-old Robert Bell Wallace, of California, has not yet been determined, his niece told Fox News that he felt ill shortly after drinking scotch from the minibar in his room at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in the Dominican resort town of Punta Cana before dying in a hospital three days later. At the same hotel last July another American tourist, 45-year-old David Harrison, of Maryland, died under similar circumstances. And over a five-day period just last month, three others tourists mysteriously died in their rooms at another … [Read more...] about Concern Grows As Another US Tourist Dies In Dominican Republic

Authorities in the Dominican Republic on Tuesday announced the arrest of an 11th suspect in the attempted killing of former Boston Red Sox star David Ortiz. An official identified the suspect as Franklin Junior Meran. Dominican Republic Breaks with Taiwan, Moves into China’s Orbit After $3 Billion Payoff

· May 1, 2018 ·

The Dominican Republic announced on Monday that it will break diplomatic ties with Taiwan, establish diplomatic relations with mainland China, and recognize Taiwan as an “inalienable part of Chinese territory.” The move came after China offered the Dominican Republic a $3 billion investment and loan package and fits neatly into China’s strategy of isolating Taiwan.“The decision was the latest setback for Taiwan in the Caribbean and Latin America. Panama dropped its longtime ties with Taiwan last year and established relations with China, which considers Taiwan to be Chinese territory. The island is recognized as a sovereign nation by only 19 mainly small, developing countries, 10 of them in this region,” the Associated Press noted. Taiwanese Foreign Minister Joseph Wu said his government is “deeply upset by China’s actions,” which he said involved offering the Dominican Republic “vast financial incentives” to move into … [Read more...] about Dominican Republic Breaks with Taiwan, Moves into China’s Orbit After $3 Billion Payoff
