By Sergio Chapa Published 4:00 am CDT, Monday, July 8, 2019 Exxon Mobil has unseated EOG Resources as the top driller in the Lone Star State. During the first six months of the year, Exxon Mobil’s shale arm, XTO Energy, has filed for 352 drilling permits with the Railroad Commission, which oversees the state’s oil and gas industry. EOG, which was last year’s top driller, has filed for 282 permits halfway through the year. Some 86 percent of Exxon Mobil’s drilling permits this year were for projects in the Permian Basin of West Texas, followed by the Eagle Ford Shale of South Texas and the Haynesville Shale of East Texas. Looking statewide, drilling permits are down by 10.3 percent in the first six months of the year, compared with the same period in 2018. Oil prices, at about $59 a barrel, are down about 20 percent from a year ago, when crude was trading around $74 a barrel. Exploration and production company budgets tightened following the sharp … [Read more...] about Drilling Down: Top 10 drillers so far this year

MELBOURNE (Reuters) - Daniel Ricciardo hoped to turn Saturday frustration into Sunday points after missing out on a top 10 grid slot in his first qualifying for Renault at his home Australian Grand Prix. The former Red Bull driver will line up 12th, alongside German team mate Nico Hulkenberg in 11th, on the sixth row for the Formula One season-opener in Melbourne. "Normally if I don't qualify as well as I think I can, I seem to carry a little chip on my shoulder which normally helps me out (in the race)," said Ricciardo. "I don't think 12th represents where we are. I do believe we’re better." Ricciardo's former team mate Max Verstappen qualified in fourth place for Red Bull. Australia has provided plenty of frustration for Ricciardo in the past, most famously in 2014 when he finished second but was then disqualified for illegal fuel flow. Last year he finished agonisingly close to the podium in fourth. "I knew it was going to be close but I did believe we’d have the pace … [Read more...] about Ricciardo frustrated at missing out on top 10 grid place

Dave Birkett Detroit Free Press Published 2:29 PM EST Dec 3, 2018 Do you know what the Los Angeles Rams were before they were the best team in the NFL? One of the worst. It was four short years ago that the Rams went 6-10 and ended up with a top-10 pick in the NFL draft, a pick that changed the direction of their franchise for good. A couple quarterbacks went at the top of the draft, some wide receivers and pass rushers and offensive linemen went next, and with the 10th pick of the 2015 draft, the Rams took running back Todd Gurley from Georgia. Gurley scored two touchdowns in the Rams’ 30-16 win over the Detroit Lions on Sunday – his NFL-leading 18th and 19th touchdowns of the year – and his big day got me thinking that maybe the Lions are headed in the right direction after all. Seriously. More from Windsor: Lions stuck in past while Rams are future of NFL I’m not and never have been an advocate of tanking, and I wouldn’t implore the Lions to do … [Read more...] about Detroit Lions headed for top-10 pick; what’s wrong with that?
