Increasing U.S. oil production could set climate efforts back decades
While several Republican lawmakers have called on President Joe Biden to increase domestic energy production in the wake of rising gas prices, energy experts warn that doing so could be detrimental to climate action goals that the U.S. is already not living up to. As of June 30, the American Automobile Association reported that the average price for gas sat at nearly $4.857 per gallon across the nation, leading some members of Congress to blame the Biden administration's "war on American energy" and restrictive policies for oil companies. But climate activists and progressives argue against the call to increase domestic production of oil, saying that doing so could undermine the president's climate-focused agenda and calls for transition to cleaner energy. Samantha Gross, director of the Energy Security and Climate Initiative at the Brookings Institution, told Newsweek that the two sides put Biden in a "real pickle" and that any policies moving forward will require a … [Read more...] about Increasing U.S. oil production could set climate efforts back decades

OPEC To Finally Boost Oil Production Ahead Of Biden’s Saudi Arabia Trip
The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and its partners agreed to boost oil production on Thursday, backing a plan released earlier this month, ahead of President Joe Biden’s visit to Saudi Arabia in mid-July. In their fifth meeting since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, which sent oil prices skyrocketing to above $100 a barrel for the first time in eight years, OPEC and a group of Russian-led non-OPEC members agreed to raise their collective production by 648,000 barrels a day. (RELATED: Energy Groups Invite Biden To Visit American Oil And Gas Sites Before He Jets Off To Saudi Arabia) The move comes after Biden has repeatedly begged the cartel to boost oil production. The production levels that will increase in August match what OPEC+, a broader coalition of OPEC and Russia-aligned oil producing countries, also committed to producing in July, according to The Wall Street Journal. Joe Biden: Drivers Must Pay More for Gas ‘As Long as It Takes’ to Stop Vladimir Putin
President Joe Biden said Thursday that American drivers should be prepared to pay more for gasoline until Russian President Vladimir was defeated in Ukraine. “How long is it fair to expect American drivers and drivers around the world to pay a premium for this war?” one reporter from the New York Times asked the president during his press conference in Europe. “As long as it takes, so Russia cannot in fact defeat Ukraine and move beyond Ukraine,” Biden said. “This is a critical, critical, position for the world.” The president blamed high gas prices on Russia, despite his policy efforts to restrict oil and gas production in the United States. “The reason why gas prices are up is because of Russia. Russia, Russia, Russia,” Biden said. “The reason the food crisis exists because of Russia.” Biden also said he would not ask Saudi Arabian leaders to increase their production of oil during his trip to the Middle East in July. “No, I’m not going to ask them,” he said. Soaring inflation sees household incomes fall for record four quarters in a row
Household finances failed to keep up with soaring inflation once again at the start of the year, marking the first time real disposable income has fallen for four quarters in a row since records began, according to official figures. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said real household disposable income dropped 0.2% between January and March as income growth of 1.5% was outstripped by household inflation of 1.7%. Household finances have now been under pressure for a straight year, with rising prices amid the cost-of-living crisis meaning income after inflation has fallen for a record four consecutive quarters. The latest figures came as the ONS confirmed its earlier estimation that gross domestic product (GDP) – a measure of the size of the economy – rose by 0.8% in the first quarter of the year. Brix Brew & Tap finds its identity in new name: TightKnit Brewing Co.
When you walk into Brix Brew and Tap at 813 8th St. in Greeley, you might notice that something looks a little different. While the faces behind the bar are the same and the list of beers on tap hasn’t changed, Brix Brew & Tap will now be known as TightKnit Brewing Co. The brewery announced its rebranding efforts to the community on Sunday via Facebook. Brewery co-owner Tommy Dyer and crew purchased the business four years ago, and while they made some modifications to the original Brix brand, they just didn’t feel like the name reflected the passion and purpose of the business. “The TightKnit Brewing Company name was derived from the way we strive to operate as a business,” Dyer said in the announcement. “We have a tight knit group of staff that is more like family than coworkers. We believe we have formed a tight knit relationship with our customers. And lastly, we want to be a supportive community member that is integral and tight knit with the city of Greeley, … [Read more...] about Brix Brew & Tap finds its identity in new name: TightKnit Brewing Co.
