The two men panicked when they saw the massive predator behind them.One of the men, Ken Gerke, slapped the water with his paddle in an attempt to scare off the shark. The moment Gerke spotted the shark, he pulled out his camera to capture the scenes that unfolded. Commute by Water: Bay Area Woman Avoids Rush Hour on Kayak
It's no secret commuting in the San Francisco Bay Area is as difficult as it gets. But Richmond resident Janis Johnson has found a unique way of avoiding congested highways by kayaking to work. “I had come down here from the foothills and I kind of jokingly boasted to my friends, ‘I’m going to get a kayak and kayak to work,’” Johnson told NBC Bay Area on a chilly August morning while getting ready for her kayak commute. “I was just thinking that would be the ultimate in coolness and so, I did!” Johnson lives on board a 44-foot boat in Marina Bay only 2.25 miles away from her job at KKMI, a boat repair and maintenance yard. A couple of times a week, she’ll wake up a little earlier than usual, prepare her kayak and make her way down the Harbor Channel at a pace of about 15 minutes per mile. White 02/19/18 AT 3:19 PM Police searched for an Australian fisherman who they suspected went missing after he his kayak surfaced without him in it, according to reports.The hunt for the fisherman, identified by Austrailian news outlets as Brett Palmer, 34, began after locals reportedly found his abandoned kayak off the coast of Balnarring in Victoria Sunday morning, according to the West Australian.The 34-year-old snagged a shark but lost control as it pulled him into the water. However, his friends, who happened to be fishing nearby, came to his aid and rescued him from the ocean.Palmer and his friends returned to the shore and fished all night and that’s when he lost sight of his vessel. The video shows a seal surfacing near a kayaker and the sea animal smacking the man's face with the mollusc.
