FBI: Powell Warned Clinton Not to Use BlackBerry Because Messages ‘Subject to The Law’

Remember the she-said, he-said between former Secretaries of State Hillary Clinton and General Colin Powell? She said he recommended she use her own email except for classified documents. He said her people were throwing him under the bus, blaming him for the email debacle.Well, on Friday, the FBI released their investigation summary into Clinton’s alleged misuse of emails, and they happened to mention Powell.From the report, page 11: The FBI investigation indicated Clinton was aware of her use of a personal device, e-mail account, and server did not negate her obligation to preserve federal records. On January 23, 2009, Clinton contacted former Secretary of State Colin Powell via email to inquire about his use of a BlackBerry while he was Secretary of State (January 2001 to January 2005). Powell Goldstein to Merge with Bryan Cave and Give up its Name

The partnerships of Powell Goldstein and Bryan Cave have voted to merge the two law firms, giving Bryan Cave a presence in the southeast and the Atlanta-based Powell Goldstein an international platform.Powell Goldstein’s name will be retained only in the merged firm’s Atlanta office, and only temporarily, according to a lengthy story in the Fulton County Daily Report. The Atlanta office will be known as Bryan Cave-Powell Goldstein for two years. The merger takes effect in January, when Powell Goldstein will mark its 100th birthday.Powell Goldstein’s chairman, James McAlpin Jr., called the merger “a transformational event” for his firm in an interview with the Fulton County Daily Report. “It propels us into a different league.”The new firm will have 1,165 lawyers, the story says. OMERS Private Equity completes sale of Give & Go Prepared Foods to Thomas H. Lee Partners

OMERS Private Equity (OPE), the private equity arm of OMERS, one of Canada’s largest pension funds, completed the sale of its portfolio company, Give & Go Prepared Foods Corp. (Give & Go), to an affiliate of US private-equity firm Thomas H. Lee Partners, L.P. (THL). The financial terms were undisclosed. OPE acquired Give & Go in 2007 and, while owning Give & Go, helped the company more than double its US sales, gain market share, and complete two strategic acquisitions. Founded in 1989, Give & Go is a market leader in the North American bakery industry delivering branded and private label programs across a range of consumer segments including Mini-Treats, Cupcakes, and Better For You Snacking. The federal government keeps all the Buncich bucks it seized in 2016

HAMMOND — The federal government will keep what little cash agents seized from former Sheriff John Buncich.U.S. District Court Judge James Moody gave his approval earlier this week to a request by the U.S. Attorney's office to permanently turn over to the government $1,600 in cash that Federal Bureau of Investigation agents confiscated 16 months ago from Buncich's house on Easy Street in Crown Point.U.S. Attorney Thomas Kirsch II said in a court document that the money will help pay restitution and a fine totaling $250,800 the judge ordered at Buncich's sentencing Jan. 6 for six counts of wire fraud, honest services wire fraud and bribery.Less than a year ago, Buncich was the top elected law enforcement officer of Lake County. Christopher Condon and Craig Torres, Bloomberg Published 10:12 am PST, Wednesday, December 26, 2018 President Donald Trump may get the Federal Reserve interest rate-hike pause he wants as his attacks on the Fed and the government shutdown roil stock markets and shave 2019 forecasts for economic growth. The S&P 500 fell 2.7 percent on Christmas Eve, bringing U.S. stocks to the brink of a bear market after a drop of almost 20 percent from a September peak. Shares rallied Wednesday, snapping a four-day losing streak. The latest drop came after Bloomberg News reported Dec. 21 that the president had discussed firing Fed Chairman Jerome Powell following the central bank's Dec. 19 decision to lift interest rates for the fourth time this year. Fed officials accompanied the hike with a signal they would likely slow the pace of increases in 2019.
