Los Angeles County reported Monday that over 27% of the signatures submitted on petitions to recall District Attorney George Gascón were invalid — after reporting that less than 1% of mail-in ballots were invalid in the 2020 election. The county reported that it rejected 195,783 of the 715,833 signatures submitted, roughly 27.3%. The reasons given included that some voters were found to be unregistered; incorrect addresses were given; or signatures did not match those on file. However, in January 2021, the county reported that less than 1% of the 3,422,585 vote-by-mail ballots submitted were rejected. The test for the validity of ballots is similar to that of petitions, involving checking signatures and addresses. Given that the State of California mailed ballots to every voter on the rolls, rather than just to those who had requested them as in years past, there was a high likelihood of error; some voters reported receiving multiple ballots, often for prior residents. (These … [Read more...] about L.A. Claims 27% Error Rate in Recall Signatures; < 1% Error Rate in Mail-in Ballots in 2020

Harriet Hageman plays up “rigged” 2020 election claim in victory speech
Republican congressional candidate Harriet Hageman, who was endorsed by former President Donald Trump , held firm to her stance on the 2020 presidential election in her primary victory speech, promoting Trump's claims of a "rigged" election to the crowd in Cheyenne. "Wyoming has spoken on behalf of everyone who is concerned that the game is becoming more and more rigged against them," Hageman told an excited crowd on Tuesday night. Hageman successfully ousted Representative Liz Cheney from her House seat after she clinched the Republican nomination for Wyoming's at-large district. The former Cheney aide is projected to go on to win November's general election, given that Trump carried the state with more than two-thirds of the vote in both the 2016 and 2020 presidential election. The GOP primary had largely been seen as a referendum on Cheney, who many Wyoming voters have argued failed to represent them when she broke with the House GOP to vote in favor of Trump's impeachment … [Read more...] about Harriet Hageman plays up “rigged” 2020 election claim in victory speech
BBC Journalists Considering Strike Action Over News Channel Merger
Click here to read the full article. BBC journalists are considering whether to strike over the merger of two of the network’s news channel teams, which will see up to 70 jobs axed. Earlier this year BBC director general Tim Davie revealed that the U.K.-focused BBC News and global BBC World News channels would be replaced by one new channel called BBC News as part of a move to deliver hundreds of million dollars’ worth of cutbacks at the corporation. The decision, which Davie described as one of a number of “difficult choices” management were having to make, came after the U.K. government confirmed it would not increase the licence fee, paid for by the public, which funds the BBC. Brexit Deal Row to See UK Slap EU with Formal Complaint for First Time
Authorities in London are reportedly ready to slap the EU with formal proceedings for the first time over the union’s allegedly breaching parts of the Brexit agreement. The United Kingdom will reportedly launch formal proceedings against the European Union as early as this week over accusations that Brussels is in breach of the agreement enabling Britain to leave the transnational union. Since its initially signing in late 2020, the Brexit deal has been a source of political chaos both in the UK and EU, with the status of Northern Ireland, in particular, being a sticking point for both parties, having been left largely inside the EU’s single market and outside the UK’s own economic zone despite being an integral part of the UK. In what appears to be the latest chapter in the long-running dispute between the two parties, the UK is to imminently launch dispute proceedings against the EU, with The Telegraph reporting Westminster as now alleging that the EU is illegitimately … [Read more...] about Brexit Deal Row to See UK Slap EU with Formal Complaint for First Time

Political Matrix will focus on these groups and their aspirations in each state of India and decode their electoral choices. Universities in developing countries have multiple roles – teaching, learning, research and community engagements, as identified by education policy experts. However, another important role can be added to it – assisting the nation to address developmental challenges. One of the ways to do it is by producing relevant and impactful knowledge around ongoing development projects and social interventions. To play this role, universities, Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT), Indian Institutes of Management (IIM) and colleges across the country will need to work as a third eye to review and understand the development action initiated and implemented by states and their impact on various segments of … [Read more...] about Political Matrix | Time For Universities To Track On-Ground Development Initiatives, Act as Think Tanks
