Mateo Lopez tugged at the collar of his shirt and wrenched his neck, as if to free his voice. Then, as violins slashed behind him and guitars rippled before him in a rehearsal room at the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center, he belted out La Noche y Tu , concluding with a flourish that prompted shouts of “Eso! Eso!” (Right on!) Like many mariachi musicians, Mateo treasures his Mexican heritage and loves singing songs about romance, a mother’s love, pleas for forgiveness and life and death in the countryside. But because Mateo is only seven, he also likes throwing baseballs or seeing how fast he can run from one end of a hallway to the other. The bilingual second grader has been performing since he was four years and 236 days old, a mark that earned him recognition as the world’s youngest mariachi by Guinness World Records. Mateo’s star took off after a video went viral of him singing at a Mexican restaurant in late 2018. He’s since appeared on Mexico’s version of America’s Got … [Read more...] about Meet 7YO ‘Mariachi Mateo’, the world’s youngest mariachi musician

Angry Nancy Pelosi Blames Donald Trump for Pro-Life Win
An angry House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) on Friday blamed former President Donald Trump, as well as Republican leadership, for Friday’s massive victory for life, deeming the Supreme Court ruling — which allows states to set their own laws on abortion, certainly saving countless lives — “cruel” and “heart-wrenching.” “Today, the Republican-controlled Supreme Court has achieved the GOP’s dark and extreme goal of ripping away women’s right to make their own reproductive health decisions,” the 82-year-old Democrat said in a statement, blaming Trump, as well Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and the Republican Party, for making the pro-life victory a reality. “Because of Donald Trump, Mitch McConnell, the Republican Party & their supermajority on the Supreme Court, American women today have less freedom than their mothers,” Pelosi claimed. “Radical Republicans are now charging ahead with their crusade to criminalize health freedom.” Pelosi then claimed that … [Read more...] about Angry Nancy Pelosi Blames Donald Trump for Pro-Life Win
The Righteous Sounds of ‘Gemstones’ and the Importance of a Perfect Score
Click here to read the full article. Beyond the misdeeds and greed of the beloved televangelist family featured on HBO’s “ The Righteous Gemstones ,” one of the most marked elements of its co-creators’ rude, enlightened and hilarious series is its music. As with every other series creator-writer-actor Danny McBride has co-concocted — including 2009’s “Eastbound & Down” and 2016’s “Vice Principals” — the unique musical tone of “The Righteous Gemstones” comes down to the longtime friendship of college buddies McBride, composer Joseph Stephens and music supervisor Devoe Yates. Male Sex Dolls: They’re Not Just For Sex, Actually
A decade ago, Samantha (who requested a pseudonym to protect her privacy), 45, experienced a tragedy. Her husband was involved in a serious car accident that resulted in him becoming paralyzed from the neck down and permanently impotent. “Any other woman in my position could have left him when they knew they would never have a sex life again. But I stayed by his side because I love him,” she said. It wasn’t easy. “I mourned the loss of our sex life — not just the sex, but the intimacy that came with it,” she said. “There were times when I sat and cried my heart out.” Her husband was upset to see his wife struggling, so he suggested she find a friend with benefits. She contemplated the idea, but eventually decided not to do it. “I was worried that if I got a fuck buddy, feelings could become involved,” she said. “And if that happened, our relationship wouldn't survive.” Her marriage suffered regardless. The couple, who live in Australia, began sleeping in separate … [Read more...] about Male Sex Dolls: They’re Not Just For Sex, Actually
Running on empty: An eating disorder in disguise
"Being around food is intensely stressful for me. I think I hide it from my daughter pretty well, but I get anxious when she rejects food, or won't finish everything on her plate." At the UK's leading private rehab and addiction centre a group of women ranging in age from 34 to 76 are gathered to talk about the effect their eating disorders are having on their children. All are university-educated, with successful careers. Sophy, aged 42, is bringing up her three-year-old daughter alone. "I've had anorexia since the age of 20, and I'm terribly worried that she'll develop an eating disorder," she says. "I try to give her a balanced diet but I'm not the most imaginative when it comes to putting meals together. Also, I worry about her eating alone: most nights I just have some cottage cheese and a glass of red wine after she's gone to bed, but I don't really sit at the table as such. The problem is it's just the two of us ... it would be good if we could eat together, I know. At least … [Read more...] about Running on empty: An eating disorder in disguise
I Own a Sex Shop in Mississippi. SCOTUS Is Coming for Me Next.
Hi y’all. I am Tami Rose and I love Mississippi. I love our beautiful wide-open spaces and all our amazing waterways. I come from a beautiful state where the people are so precious and kind to one another in everyday life. We hold doors for each other and make eye contact and speak to strangers. We are the hospitality state, and we try to make everyone feel welcome. Yet at a political level, especially when history gets involved, we can be unspeakably cruel to each other. I cannot say how ashamed I am of my state today. It grieves my soul that Mississippi will play an instrumental role in overturning Roe v. Wade . This opinion is a nuclear bomb to the health and autonomy of women. Additionally, it will roll back all of the gains our society made over the last half-century—especially as it is couched in this blistering opinion by Justice Alito that has been leaked from the Supreme Court. The Alito opinion as written does not just roll back Roe v. Wade —it severely limits … [Read more...] about I Own a Sex Shop in Mississippi. SCOTUS Is Coming for Me Next.
“Money Heist: Korea” review: An intriguing tale of nail-biting missions
Cult Netflix drama Money Heist is back with a heart-pounding Korean twist. Money Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Area , the Korean remake of the Spanish smash hit, opens with the most iconic of the country's exports—none other than global phenomenon BTS. "Don't look back, because we found our destiny"—the lyrics from the BTS song "DNA" play in the opening scene, with the show's Tokyo character dancing to it on the steps of North Korea's Kim Il-sung University. It's part of the intriguing preamble to a perfect storm that will "go down in history as a revolutionary crime." The new Netflix K-drama sees a grand heist unfold inside a Korean mint at a historic time set against the backdrop of a soon-to-be-reunified Korean peninsula of the future. The Spanish series might have left some huge shoes to fill, but the spin-off marks its own territory with plenty of colorful Korean flair, with the show's greatest weapon being its unique blend of punchy characters seasoned with local … [Read more...] about “Money Heist: Korea” review: An intriguing tale of nail-biting missions
View from the choir loft: the Museum of Christian Art reopens in Goa
Ever since my move to Goa a few years ago, I have haunted abandoned houses and museums and pored over literature in an attempt to understand my new home. The Museum of Christian Art (MoCA) in Velha, North Goa , with its confluence of cultures, was high on this list. But it was inaccessible — closed for renovation since 2017. So, when it reopened in May, visitors like me were quick to take the ferry from Salim Ali National Park to a jetty in Old Goa to spend an afternoon there. The 17th century Convent of Santa Monica (within which is housed the MoCA) sits neatly in a depression amidst the hills, its large buttresses reaching out like a hand. The few remaining laterite walls of the nearby St Augustine Monastery ruins cast shifting shadows over it. You walk along the austere building to a little door at the far end of the wall, visible only because of the large brass name plate. The collection at MoCA | Photo Credit: Aaron Monteiro The Virgin on a lotus I have always … [Read more...] about View from the choir loft: the Museum of Christian Art reopens in Goa
