Studies have found that the active ingredient in over-the-counter whitening strips, hydrogen peroxide, fragments dentin protein. Dentin lies beneath the tooth’s enamel outer layer and provides it with support. It is sandwiched between the enamel and connective tissue that binds tooth roots to the gums. Most studies of whitening strips have focused on the tooth enamel, but the new research looked at what happened to dentin in teeth exposed to hydrogen peroxide. The American team found that collagen protein in the dentin was broken up and appeared to vanish from laboratory images. Dr Kelly Kennan, from Stockton University in New Jersey, said: “Our results showed that treatment with hydrogen peroxide concentrations similar to those … [Read more...] about Teeth-whitening strips may damage tooth dentin, study shows

The Rail Delivery Group (RDG), which represents train operators and Network Rail, said it had “learned the lessons” from last year’s disruption. Then, schedules crippled large parts of the network in the north and south-east of England. The RDG said the new services – part of a plan to add up to 6,400 by the early 2020s – are only being introduced where there is “high confidence” that infrastructure, staffing plans and trains would be ready. Its chief executive, Paul Plummer, said: “The scale of our ambition to improve means that this is a significant challenge. “While there may be some teething problems, train … [Read more...] about Passengers told to expect ‘teething problems’ with rail timetable launch

Some products available on the high street were found to reduce the hardness of enamel, according to early findings published in the British Dental Journal. Consumers have been urged by the British Dental Association (BDA) to exercise caution and not gamble with the health of their smiles. Five non-hydrogen peroxide whitening products from Boots and Superdrug were tested as part of the study. The researchers found three of the products had an active ingredient of sodium chlorite, which they said reduced the hardness of teeth when acid was present. It also increased the chances of future surface abrasions. “Not all bleaching products are the same and not all bleaching products are safe,” lead author Dr Joseph Greenwall-Cohen, … [Read more...] about Dentists issue warning over high street teeth-whitening products
THIS is the shocking moment an evil woman tied up her neighbour’s puppy and pulled out its teeth with pruning shears after it allegedly bit her. One-year-old Ding was heard wailing in agony on Saturday afternoon in Phrae, northern Thailand. Owners Pol Makmai, 45, and his wife, Yai, ran over to find the crazed neighbour and her daughter torturing their beloved puppy. They complained that Ding had bitten them and they wanted to "stop it from happening again" by removing the fangs. But Pol and his partner took the traumatised dog to the police station the next day and showed the video to cops who have now arrested neighbour Duangdao Jaiyu, 55, for questioning. Pol said: ‘’She must have hit him on the head to make him unconscious before she tied him up to the fence. "Her action was outrageous and police must do something.’’ Duangdao went to the police station where she admitted pulling out three of the dog’s teeth. She told the police that she was bitten … [Read more...] about Evil woman ‘ties up neighbour’s puppy and yanks its teeth out with pruning shears after it bit her’
Like most things, charcoal is something that was once very popular and universally used, that has made a comeback in modern times. Before the whole “wellness boom” brought forth by millennials, largely, activated charcoal was deemed to be an emergency treatment for certain kinds of poisoning. “It helps prevent the poison from being absorbed from the stomach into the body,” according to Mayo Clinic. Additionally, some activated charcoal products contain sorbitol, a sweetener, and can work as a laxative, for the elimination of the poison from the body. Plus, activated charcoal has long been used in commercial settings, such as waste-management centers, as part of the filtration process. Dozens of water filtration products designed for at-home use feature activated charcoal in carbon cartridges to purify water of toxins and impurities, Medical News Today notes.
