Dr Christian Jessen has criticised those who decide not to have their children immunised - saying those who refuse the MMR jab 'must be pleased with themselves' that a measles epidemic is spreading. The Embarrassing Bodies star and esteemed healthcare professional retweeted a link to a story about an outbreak of the disease and commented, "I'm sure they're very pleased with themselves. I think this is criminal" and followed it up with a very angry emoji. The news story he'd shared was a report form the World Health Organisation warning that outbreaks of measles are spreading in regions where vaccinations have dropped. Sweden Rolls Out Fifth Covid Shot
STOCKHOLM (AP) – Sweden is recommending a fifth COVID-19 vaccine dose for people with an increased risk of becoming seriously ill, including pregnant women and anyone aged 65 and over, authorities said Tuesday, adding that the country must “be prepared for an increased spread during the upcoming autumn and winter season.” “The vaccine is our strongest tool for preventing serious illness and death,” Swedish Social Affairs Minister Lena Hallengren said, adding the pandemic is not over. As of Sept. 1, Sweden recommends that another booster shot is given to people aged 65 and older and people over 18 in the risk groups. The Swedish Public Health Agency said the latter includes pregnant women, people with weakened immune systems and people with heart and lung disease. “In general, the risk of serious illness is assessed as low for adults under the age of 65 who have been vaccinated with three doses, but the risk increases with age and varies within the group,” agency chief Karin … [Read more...] about Sweden Rolls Out Fifth Covid Shot

Common sense matters
Yeom Jae-ho The author is a professor emeritus and former president of Korea University. In the presidential race, which was marred by negative campaigning, Yoon Suk-yeol from the opposition People Power Party (PPP) defeated Lee Jae-myung from the ruling Democratic Party (DP) by a 0.73 percent margin. Yoon got 247,077 more votes than Lee in the election. The gap was smaller than the 307,542 votes that were declared invalid. After the frustrating loss, the DP established an emergency committee led by floor leader Yoon Ho-joong and Park Ji-hyun, a 26-year old activist on a crusade to eradicate digital sex crimes, to help reenergize the party. Before and after the election, President Moon Jae-in enjoyed approval ratings hovering above 40 percent for 11 consecutive weeks, and DP candidate Lee dominated other contestants in personal appeal. In terms of strength, the PPP was the underdog as inferred by the shabby number of seats it has in the National Assembly (35.9 percent vs. 58.3 … [Read more...] about Common sense matters
How a Tax Case Could Force Roger Stone to Cough Up Jan. 6 Records
Roger Stone is not cooperating. But soon, he might not have a choice. On Monday, Justice Department prosecutors asked a federal judge to compel Stone and his wife to turn over all of their financial statements and bank account information from 2017 to the present. The request is part of a tax evasion lawsuit brought against the Stones last year. But for the MAGA world’s preeminent cocktail-clutching coxcomb, it could carry ramifications well beyond the IRS. The judge’s order would force the Stones to disclose a potential treasure trove of evidence. Prosecutors would obtain records of any financial activity of Stone tied to the Jan. 6 riot and “Stop the Steal” efforts, as well as potential payments from pardon-seekers, politicians, and private boosters—and, possibly, information about accounts that the Stones haven’t yet disclosed. So far, however, the Stones have refused to comply. Federal prosecutors filed the multimillion-dollar lawsuit against the Stones last … [Read more...] about How a Tax Case Could Force Roger Stone to Cough Up Jan. 6 Records

Jeff Brazier was on Loose Women with Dr Christian Jessen speaking about the HPV vaccine and why everyone should be able to get it. Embarrassing Bodies doctor Christian Jessen caught malaria in a Ugandan jail
When they first begin their studies, very few medical students know what they will specialise in. But for Embarrassing Bodies presenter Dr Christian Jessen, his gap year travels made his choice easy – he would home in on malaria. After all, he had only just recovered from the deadly tropical disease himself. Christian, who had recently returned from 12 months teaching at a school in Kenya, says it was one of the worse experiences of his life. While the star of Channel 4’s Supersize vs Superskinny had been careful to take his malaria tablets, an unpleasant brush with the law had seen him separated from his pills. Doctor Christian Jessen contracted the deadly disease in his early doctoring days "It was part of a scam that happened quite a lot in those days," says Christian, 42, who lives in South London. "I was 19 and escorting a school trip to neighbouring Uganda. While photographing the source of the Nile, I was arrested, accused of spying and thrown in jail." He … [Read more...] about Embarrassing Bodies doctor Christian Jessen caught malaria in a Ugandan jail
